Have you guys ran across 1and1.com yet? I'd say its becoming about impossible to compete in this market these days.

Might as well just lie about resources... everyone else is doing it.

1&1's had a bad rep for a long time now. Heard a lot of horror stories about them.

The domain side of things I can understand... being they are the cheapest out there... but if you take in to consideration their upselling model and misleading advertising (2.99 ** with other purchase) I'm surprised web developers contiue to recommend them to people. Since they advertise to the general public I have people all the time who have already registered/ purchased hosting through them even though they usually have no idea what to do next. It's difficult to then explain to them well you should've contacted us first and still charge more (their expectations to cost are already so low). They will find someone else to give them a cheapo web design to go with their cheapo domain and hosting.

Sometimes like the saying goes, if you can't beat em, join em. My hope is that the majority of people who do use them will have a bad experience and then I can tell them, well "you get what you pay for". But its not hard to find forums full of complaints on any given hosting company (Vortech included).

When Joe Public is comparing services and see 100GB / 10GB for 2.95/mo then they see 10GB/100MB for 9.95/mo (for example) to them its an easy choice.

I used to like the way registerfly was set up. Seemed to be a lot less confusing than godaddy. But when they went belly-up, I had almost $200 in my account there that I'll never see again. C'est la vie!

Frankly I couldn't care less about getting more "free" stuff. I'd rather have rock-solid performance. Heck, I'd even pay more if I had better guarantees. And don't tell me it's because we're in a shared environment... there are hosts out there who can actually tout a 5-nine uptime in a shared environment. Yes, they cost a lot more, but you know the old addage that you get what you pay for.

Absolutely... actually I'd really like it if I could get my own server within the cluster... and not have to worry about sharing with bad coders. But for whatever reason this costs way beyond what I'd be willing to pay for it. If Vortech had a dedicated/reseller solution like this for around $100/mo I'd jump on it. >$300 or whatever they're asking is just little ridiculous IMO.

My disk space overages are costing me too much, so $300/m is tempting in my case. But on the other hand I just don't feel it's safe to put all my sites on one server, hence i would like a free plan upgrade and spread the risk.

BUT i do want to see a cheaper dedicated solution so i can use it for high traffic sites and customers who will pay more for better performance.
