spamGuard Mail - Mail7 and unix - unix14

We have decided to take some action to stop these spammers and bad mailing lists from going out of our network. After being notified that we were getting blocked by sorbs and then the spamcop listing for mail3 yesterday, we felt this to be a necessary action to take for the good of the majority of our clients and network.

Mail servers: mail.hsphere.cc through mail7.hsphere.cc will only allow 500 messages to be sent in 24 hours before you are added to the 'badmail from' . After 500 sent, no email from that address will be allowed out. Also unix.hsphere.cc through unix14.hsphere.cc will only allow 500 messages.

If you have a mailing list that uses one of the mail or unix servers you must send an email to support@vortechhosting.com including the following information:

1) Mail server you are on:
2) Domain name:
3) The 'From Email' used for your mailing list.
4) Your username:

We will need all this info to whitelist your domain. ( If you are white listed and get spam complaints we will shut you off just as we've done in the past)

Stupid question I'm sure - but how do we (or our end-users) work out which mail server they use?

Send a message via MSN to awen
Sounds entirely reasonable and fair to me.

Hey Brad what about us CPanel users?

I have a few mailing lists on an account that is on CPanel3. Should I submit my info to support@vortechhosting.com too?

We are still working on CPanel, spamgaurd does not support it but we are trying to hack it together.

Does this mean that no one can send more than 500 emails out per day even if they are on the whitelist?

I have a couple of what appear to be dumb questions regarding this.

1. What is classed as a mailing list - EG: any mail-out method that sends to more then 1 person?

2. So the limit of 500 mails applies to a specific mail address or domain?

Cheers

I am all for spam stopping, but I would really like to get the above answered.
Do internal emails also count towrds this limit (I am sending some mails to myself, notifying me of user activities, server status etc.)?

If you can provide us of specific details of this limits, it would be great

Only if it goes over 500 messages from 1 ( one ) from address is it put in the badmailfrom, this goes for EVERYTHING as far as I know local mail or mail being sent out side, spamGuard just reads the log files for sendmail or qmail and says hey this guy sent 501 emails he goes to the badmailfrom.

If your not sure how many you send a day, give it 24 hours and see if you get blocked. Any tech working can whitelist your email or domain if needed and remove it from the badmail.

Hey Brad:

I didn't see this anywhere, but are users that have scripts set up to send mail directly from a windows web server affected?

Do You Have A Mail Server That Can Be Used For Large List At Extra Cost

Is there another mail server that we can use at extra cost of course for large mailing lists? If not, can you reccomend a service?

I was planning on offering my customers mailing list service such as the ones discussed on this thread: http://forum.vortechhosting.com/show...hlight=phplist

phpList was my first choice of scripts to use and have spent considerable time on it.

I'll have to cancel my plans becuase I can't police and be bothered with customers abuse the limit and shut themselves down. I manage the hosting for all my clients and I'll get the blame!
