end user support when reseller is out.

I see where 24 hour support has its advantages.

If I get a reseller acount then aside from my support are my clients able to take advantage of the bulletin boards, etc. in case I am out of town for a week? Or would the only solution be affiliate status.

Thanks,

Your clients shouldn't be coming anywhere near these forums or going to Vortech support, it's your responsibility I'm afraid to meet all of their support requirements. So if your out of town for a period of time you'll need to find some sort of backup or emergency system whereby you can deal with their issues, you can always ask another reseller here to help out too thats been done in the past.

I hear that!!

In the past four years I have taken one vacation and it wasn't all of that It was my wife and I, and I was attached to the laptop, the laptop was attached to the wireless modem and overall I wasn't very attached to that vacation.

I am a one man band here with two hosting companies and customers to support, I forgo vacations.

I feel your pain and can tell you that we even tote laptops with us on vacation and we are not a "one man band". Every vacation and/or trip, Brad & I can not leave home without the laptop. Hotels are picked according to who has high speed internet access. God forbid, we have to stay somewhere with only dial up access <gasp> (it happened in Daytona Beach). Email is checked on a twice daily basis and cell phones are always on. I swear working for a hosting company is almost like being a surgeon on call, if you think about it. LoL Doctors at least get vacations though.

If other hosting companies worked with you instead of being your competition, you'd be able to take a "real" vacation occasionally too. God bless capitalism!

The joys of being an entrepeneur

I have owned my own business for more than 25 years. And most of the time I took a laptop on vacations. ( Anyone old enough to remember the first Compaq, about the size of a sewing machine ) Although there were a few times that I had a partner or key employee who let me vacation with only a call or two.

While it is a pain, it is the tradeoff for not having to work for people that are not very smart, and definitely not very committed to customer service.

Of course, this is the reason why I like to have suppliers which are run by the owners. Thanks Vixen and Brad for caring about your business.
