idea for hosting name: vphase.com?
I've been considering changing my name for quite some time, from electricfox.com. It is rather long, not that catchy, and definately not corporate.
So I stumbled on vphase.com and registered it. What do you guys think of this for a hosting/development house? I might expand the name to "VirtualPhase", but that domain is taken, and I wouldn't want to confuse anyone. So it'd probably be "vPhase.com: enter the next phase" Whaddathink? Should I run with it or did I just waste $9? :-) PS: Brad, I know there would be issues with switching my domains over - I'm assuming I can't just say "make electricfox.net into vphase.com", but is there anyway to avoid the 48 hour downtime? (since I would have to delete the domain on one account in order to add it to another) |

I like it! Its catchy and "futuristic"
Add vphase.com as an alias to your current domain, you won't have any downtime and current customers will always get to your site even if they forget and type the old url in. Just don't for get to point to the correct name server with your registar |

yeah that should work, however you will still have to get your clients to register the nsX.electricfox.com servers wont you? Sounds good tho

Thanks for the feedback comrades! But how about that alias deal - I want to be able to use nsX.vphase.com for at least my new clients. Is there a way to do this? I don't mind paying for another service domain.

You can add as many service domains as you want under E.Manager. You can even decide which server aliases you want to go to which Service domain. You only get one set of Aliases with an account though. So if your unwilling to convert current customers, you'll either have to wait till we add new nameservers, or sign up for another reseller account. There are some other issues with changing service domains, namely the Mail records dont update (MX record will point at old service domain), unless you turn Mail Service off and on after submitting the new server aliases. Note: this will delete you entirely off the machine, so download your mail before you turn Mail Service off.

Personally, I like electricfox. It's not too long. It's catchy and frankly, out of all the domain names I look at, I can remember yours. I am always of the opinion that if something works well like it is, don't fix it. vphase is a great name, but don't give up the 'electricfox' .
Good luck either way.

I like the name vphase....good stuff. Just need to flesh it out with a good ID and some marketing.
