01/16/2004: mail2.hsphere.cc

On Friday, 01/16/2004, mail2.hsphere.cc will be taken down for a hardware upgrade. This upgrade will consist of the addition of a 73GB drive to allow users to store their mail w/o the need for the 30 day limit. In addition, a new system drive will be put in the machine to bring it inline with the other machines.

Expected downtime is 30 minutes to 1 hour. Mail will be delayed by sending MTAs, but none should be lost as long as the sending MTA complies with basic RFCs.

The upgrades for the rest of the servers is scheduled for next week. Only mail1 will require the same level of downtime as mail2.

We will try to upgrade the harddrives on the other 3 mail servers w/o as much downtime, due to the fact that they already have proper system drives.

Matt, could you give us a time window (of when you'll be starting the task) so that we can announce to any end users on mail2?

I'll probably start about 6pm and downtime is expected to be minimal.. 30 minutes if the files transsfer quickly.
