How come mysql.server isn't monitored anymore?

Shouldn't it still have a QA monitor setup Matt to verify the "service" is working ? It's a little pointless relying on say a ping test to verify a DBMS is working fully.

There is a modified 'telnet' monitor that checks the mysql port etc
