Slow Support for ANOTHER FTP problem!

1. Slow support.
I submitted a support ticket on Thurs Sep 12, 2002 6:20:32 PM

It's now Sep 17 and I'm still waiting for a response.

Why does it take so long for someone to get back to me?

2. Another FTP Problem.
Has anyone else had problems with inconsistant ftp access. One day everything will be fine. The next day I either can't log-in or can't upload files because access is denied to folders. ???

There is not but maybe 5 tickets even open in both of our systems?

What is your ticket number? Also where did you submit it from?

Please rectify asap.


Your problem is you have PASV mode turned on.. Set this to PORT and you should be fine. Also if your going to submit tickets login as your main reseller not from your end user side that sends them to you and we never see them...

Have changed PASV to Port. Still won't let me make new directory.

Hmm... What FTP client are you using and can you open a ticket and send your FTP user name and password for me so i can test it..

I am having this same issue. I've sent in several trouble tickets and gotten a response that makes no sense at all, does not even seem to relate to my problem. Here is a copy of the latest exchange:

The main account login is xxxxx, password is xxxxxx. Sub-account is xxxxxx, password is xxxxxx. We are actively developing this site, so need this to be investigated and fixed ASAP.

Q: P.S. I just checked some of my other customer accounts and have the same issue. I cannot log into FTP on any of them, whether shared IP or Dedicated.

A: Unix3.hsphere.cc is not having any known problems with ftp. But if you have xxxxxx.com or is on its own IP and are trying to use the main account you may have problem. Best thing to do is always ftp to the server name unix3.hsphere.cc or unix3.yourservicedomain.com and should work great.

Q: I guess I just don't understand this answer. Where is this documented? What about sub-accounts, how are they to connect? And Virtual FTP accounts?

Here's what I'm trying to accomplish. I am working on a site eith other people. I don't want them to have the main account information or access to the control panel, but they need access to all of the web files and directories. Please explain how this is accomplished on your system. It is not clear to me from reading your documentation, and from the answer you just gave me regarding the root account, well I'm simply confused now. On other hosts I've always just setup FTP accounts to access the IP address.

Q: One other thing. When I setup Virtual FTP users, how do I make it so that they have permissions to files in the web directory? I see that they can log into it, but when they try to make any changes or upload files, they get a 530 error which means they don't have permissions to these files. Is this simply a chmod issue?

I don't really think this is just a chmod issue. I'm not sure the person who read my ticket even understood what I was asking, as the answer seems to have little or no bearing on what I was talking about. I tested it just to see, and it doesn't work either.


I'm talking about a customer's site I'm working on with some other developers, not my own service domain site. Why would I want to give another developer access to my service domain account or my customers account?
The strange thing is that it all worked a little over a week ago, I was able to upload through FTP just fine. Last week, when I ran into this same problem, I turned off the Dedicated IP, turned it back on, and it worked fine for a little while, then quit again. I still say there is something wrong with the FTP setup.

Here is the way the ftp works.

Go into ftp manager. Use the server name that is listed there for the username liste there( this is your main account username).
If you create an ftp server this address will work for any virtual ftp accounts you add. You will still use the other information listed in the ftp manager for the main account.


You add sub accounts to give them access like your main ftp account.

If you add a virtual ftp account they only have write access if you give them access to a virtual ftp directory. This can be a directoy already on the server.
