MS SQL Resellers please respond
Hello all. Brian here.
I need your help, as I am tired of Vortech thinking I am crazy. Although there have been many posts on the board from time to time about the MS SQL databases, I am still being told that they are working fine, and nothing is wrong. I, as well as other resellers, have emailed to tell them via support that they are timing out, but I keep getting responses like the one today: "A: Hello, I don't know what to say, our MSSQL servers are both fully operational. They are our most stable windows servers and have longer uptimes than any other server. We are adding an additional mssql server so the load shouldn't increase on mssql1. I can't say why your client can't connect." I wrote to tell them this morning that the client that I had to pay to move to another hosting company could not even log in to retrieve his data base, and this is the reply I got. It has been all day and he still cannot get in. If I am not crazy, will you other resellers post here to let them know that this is an issue? From what I can figure out, yes, the servers are up. It is the services on the machine that are not working properly, which is why we get the time outs. Please post your experiences here so maybe we can get it fixed once and ofr all. BTW, I am only having to transfer my Windows accounts from Vortech. I am still keeping all of my unix accounts with them as I used to like their company a whole lot. I am hoping, as I have been hoping for weeks, that this will get fixed and I will not need a seperate company to handle my windows accounts. Brian |

bfriended, not sure why your client can't login to mssql1 I just tested it an loged in fine. I think we would see a LOT more tickets and posts if no one could log in to this system.

Brad,
There is even a message from you in one of the threads saying that it is time to update the server: " Yea i think that server is about due for an upgrade. User keep doing the same thing they did to mySQL and its killing it bad thing is in msSQL I am not sure how to make them stop yet" So I know you know what is going on. The problem is that you enter a discussion, make one comment, and then ignore the other messages saying the same thing I am saying about the timeouts. It is a common problem. But I do not see it being fixed. As I said, I want to keep my Unix accounts here, so I am not trying to sever ties or burn bridges. but it is not doing anyone any good for you or your company to pretend there is not an issue with timeouts. Taking snips at the owner. Yea, that is the way to get something done. :-X

I hope he doesn't take it as "taking snips". I am just trying to get something fixed so I can have one account instead of two.
That is all. |

Whatever Brian, please show me another issue like this on this forum?? Also I logged into mssql, mssql1 and mssql2 with no issues. I am not going to baby set you on how to log into the servers. It's working for 325 users on mssql and 409 on mssql1 so I know there is no issue here. I would for sure see a LOT more tickets as I said before about this issue if there was one like this. I have seen 2 I think and one was from you the other was because of a firewall..

Hmm that post had nothing to do with getting in with EM.. it had to do with bad code. Also that was mssql not mssql1. |

Brian,
I have a customer on Matrix servers with a very busy MS SQL connected site (10 GB bandwidth a month, mutliple visits non-stop all day long). If the database went down for more than 5 mins I would hear about it, and so far there have been no reports of failures....sorry. |

He is talking about logging in to to EM not even the DB from what I can get.. Since EM has to list every darn DB on the server ( this is not something I can fix its a MS screw up
) that its timeing out for him to login.. I think EM will work fine after the first log in but the first time is slow to get all the DB's. |

I've have several customers like interwired as well and I'm also an MSSQL developer myself and haven't seen any issues logging on, the posts you refer too were regarding occasional timeouts on the server itself which is a whole nother kettle of fish.
Did your client receive any error or timeout messages ? did they try changing the default timeout period for EM Logons ? this is usually set to some low value like 4 seconds which is fine for intranet logons but not always appropriate for remote databases. There are many other factors that could contribute to problems (perhaps your client recently installed Zone Alarm or other firewall software etc), if you'd asked here for help earlier I'd have been more than willing to have tried to assist in working out your clients connectivity issues, I guess if you've shifted them then its a bit late for that. |

I apologize to you Brad. I guess you didn't delete this thread after all.
No, it is not an issue with EM. Please, just do a search for MSSQL on this forum. Read thru the first page of messages, and you will see numerous complaints about the server timing out ALL DAY. Don't just look at the first post when doing the search, as sometimes ther are more than one complaint in the thread. As well, people are talking about the fact that when people email about it, they are being told there is no problem, like i was told. But there obviously is. My client uses EM for all of his sites. He has set the default forward, so it will give it plenty of time. The issue is also not just when he is accessing the database. I may not have lost him if this was the case. It is a singles site. With the little bit of signups that have received so far, it is timing out periodically on them also when they try to sign up. I was told that it is a services issue. The server is fine. I have suggested that someone try to fix that, but it seems to be ignored. Your company does too many things right to not be able to see a problem like this. bfriended, I am not sure what to tell you but I still have no issues logging in to to mssql or mssql1. I tried like 5 times it times out one time and that was because I was FTPing a large file.
As for the timeouts from the site most of them are gone now do to a fix I did. The only ticket I have seen about this issue is from you so.. I am not sure what to tell you. |
