Directory Indexes Hierarchy Question

Anyone know how to set the priority order of default pages in Directory Indexes.

The problem is when there is a index.html and we want the default page to be index.cfm. Of course this is on a Windows platform.

The Users Guide explains how, i.e., "Put file names in the descending order of priority and separate them with spaces (e.g. index.html cgi.bin about.html)."

No matter what I try index.html always takes priority. I know, someone is going to reply -- the simple answer is to not use index.html. However, we have moved a Web site that has many existing links to the index.html page. Now we are using Cold Fusion templates.

A redirect will work, but would prefer something a little more eloquent if possible. HSphere claims that it provides that eloquence. Plus, I want to make sure that search engines see the correct page.

A search of PSoft shows others have asked this same question, but received no answers. A search of this forum didn't reveal an answer for this particular configuration.

Thanks,

Nick

It should work the way its described in the manual, I've always found it has personally. Try turning indexes off and back on in case something screwed up the first time. Failing that you might need to TT it.

You'll also want to give it 15-30 minutes to write the changes back to the server. Sometimes the change will happen immediately, but most of the time, any changes you make to any of your Web Options can take several minutes to write back to the web server and restart IIS for the changes to take effect.
