Changing registrar for service domain

Hi,

This is probably a real n00b question...but here goes!

I now have a reseller type account with PlanetDomain for domain registrations. I'd like to transfer my service domain from it's current registrar (a reseller for www.wildwestdomains.com, which I think is actually GoDaddy?) to my own domain registration service thingy.

Is there any downtime associated with switching registrars? obviously all my nameservers, etc. reference that domain, so I don't want it to suddenly disappear or customers will get seriously unhappy!

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

That is why I have not transfered mine yet from Dotster to godaddy.

I would assume there is as much downtime as it takes to propogate a standard domain name.

The problem is you never know how long the transfer process takes, so you can't really plan on when to tell your customers about the update and minor outages. If I can time it right, I plan on doing this over a weekend when I decide to actually do it.

And your right, wildwest is affiliated with godaddy. Was looking at that program myself, you dont like their program?

nope - the upfront cost was too high, and I can't have my prices in ozzie dollars, and they don't do .COM.AU's. PlanetDomain is not ideal (the support seems to SUCK for one - i generally wait at least 1-3 days for a response on support tickets), but I can do AUD, most things are automated, and I can support all of the Australian domain type (.COM.AU, .ORG.AU, etc.)

But I imagine if you were American, WildWest may be a better option.

Your welcome I've bounced domains between registrars many times so I can say with confidence theres no downtime.

btw .. I'll be in Melbourne in a few weeks for my annual vacation to the F1GP ... love Melbourne, very much like Wellington here in NZ
