Agreed. There is no single time that is perfect for anyone. Just tell me when and I'll deal with it.

Friday night or Saturday morning makes the most sense to me too - but (said the salt-shaker to the slug), I'd personally prefer you not install the firewall at all right now, given this latest issue...

Based on past experience here and many other places, every time we rush too fast (yes, it is possible to do that) to resolve one issue in "crisis mode", it seems very easy to break 10 other things as a result of poor planning and execution.

So Unix9 is under DOS attack. Do what you can to block the incoming requests for now, but take more time to make sure that your firewall installation doesn't totally bust a bunch of other things for ALL your servers - including my customer's ability to retrieve e-mail, database connections, PASV-mode FTP, SSL certificates, server-side component calls, SMTP and sendmail... etc, ...etc, ...etc...

That's my $0.02... Peace be with you...

I am flattered that you think I put that much stock into what you say, tkraffty. But really, I don't.

Yes, I do wear pants. Oh and shorts. Skirts are not really my thing.

In a thread titled "Please be more specific, accurate and consistent in your communications"… your response seems a bit… well… harsh.

Now I’m not complaining… I rarely do… and I have yet to request a refund… I do however like to receive an explanation from time to time so that 1) I can feel that warm fuzzy feeling hearing from my vendor… 2) I have enough information that I can communicate clearly with my own clients who might be concerned (aka complaining)… 3) have better understanding of the issue so that I can work around or modify my management processes if appropriate.

As the administrator (evil or not) you have a golden opportunity to communicate the issues with us; your customers, in a manner that edifies your own efforts, demonstrates your commitment to our business through the tireless efforts to make the service better than the countless other hosting companies and to demonstrate you commitment to us and show compassion for our hardship… adversely, you also have the opportunity to vent your frustration with your customers impatience and complaining so as to make yourself feel better.

I thought I would comment not so much as a critique, but as an object lesson on how we interact with our sources of revenue. As a past superintendent of Public Affairs for the 908th Airlift Wing, I have learned and experienced first hand the positive result of turning bad situation into an opportunity to convey strength, dedication to service and superior customer service.

Just a philosophical thought for the day… forgive me if I have offended.

Maybe if you take the time to read all the posts in this thread and the other thread regarding yesterdays downtime, you may realize why it sounds harsh. When people resort to making personal comments about myself and my relationship with Brad, then the gloves come off. Sorry.

Resellers (some of them) seem to think this board is their personal podium to bash people. Well, to be honest, they picked the wrong person to bash this time. I don't have to take it and I won't take it. My personal life has NOTHING to do with ANY of the services you guys receive. Period.

No one and I mean NO ONE has the right to be abusive to ANY staff member regardless of what is going on. Yes, I know people get frustrated BUT does that give them to right to cuss at people?? No. Does it give them the right to make comments about things they know nothing about?? No. The behavior of some is absolutely wretched and to think it should be tolerated just because they are mad, is ridiculous. I don't come here and call any of you names or comment on your personal lives that I know nothing about. How about giving me the same respect??

I think that is what Vixen tries to do for you guys when the techs are all working on an issue and can't get to the forum. She comes here and tells you all the information she has, then everyone jumps her case and asks her if she wears the pants and makes rude comments to her. Vixen didn't come here and start calling you guys names, she came here and gave you updates. How do you guys think a person is going to react when you tell them they only have their job because of their relationship with the owner? I'd be a little mad too if someone said the same thing about me.

I did in fact read all the posts... then re-read them again... I kind of feel bad for not commenting on the most awesome display of support and the completeness of information offered by the staff of Vortech Hosting... please forgive me.

I did not mean to draw blood ma'am... my comments were the ramblings of a task saturated web developer who used that opportunity to get out of work for a few moments. My opinion is just that... my opinion... and in the grand scheme of things... my opinion is worth about as much as you paid for it... nadda.

Again... let me close by saying thank you to all at Vortech/Matrix... I think you guys (gender neutral) are doing a fantastic job and I am happy to be your customer.
