Its pretty cool, and a great feature to offer for someone that doesn't have time to learn everything about how a website is put together. Plus they do not need to ftp.
Its a nice selling point. |

I've been using it for a pro-bono client. Very easy and intuitive. And fairly flexible.

One downside I see to SiteStudio is that it seems to get users out of the habit of saving thier sites locally. It just seems to me that anything you publish to the web, you'd want to have a local copy, not only as a backup, but it makes it easier to fix when you mess something up.

Is SiteStudio Down?
I'm getting a 404 page error when I attempt to access SiteStudio from my COntrol Panel.
We use SiteStudio to show our clients who don't want to spend any money on a web presence, how they can have their own web site for no additional money- just pay for hosting. I found that they don't want to do the work themselves either. We have people like that in Indiana- "want what the Californians have, but don't want to pay for it." ![]() |

I created an account for my 17 yo son to play with and kind of learn for me. He caught on quick and put a few pages up in a short period of time.
I have been giving a good amount of thought into researching the methods used to store style and layout information. It would be extremely handy to use the SiteStudio settings selected by the client in other "modules" such as forums or shopping carts... my thinking is to give the client limited access to content pages, allowing them the ability to add/modify static content and then drop in value added features they pay for such as Snitz forums or CandyPress shopping carts. Has anyone done any research into this?

Snitz Forums are free :P Anyway, There are some modules in SiteStudio. I was playing with it last night and found a "Joke" thingy. It basically pulls jokes from some site when you load up the page. Funny jokes too. If you wanted to integrate something else like SF, you'd just have to FTP the files up as before, SiteStudio is definitly not expandable and probably wont incorporate 3rd-party things like that. Its quite simply to just upload the forum/ folder and then link to it though. And since the SiteStudio settings are stored within the system database, there isn't any way for you to pull that information. Unless you pull it from pages on the site, which are unpredictable and can change with a click. |

Yes sir... Snitz is free to you and me... but the customer would have to pay dearly...
![]() Thanks for the explanation re: the database... I was afraid of that. I guess I was hoping to use a local config file to extract site settings from... oh well... lots of ideas... so little time. Speaking of Snitz... I set up a test forum just to see how Matrix got along... WHOA! Even the SQL version was set up and ready to go in minutes... I was truly impressed.
