Is Sharepoint Team Services AKA FrontPage 2003 Extensions going to be loaded on the Windows 2003 servers? It would be a nice selling point for me if Sharepoint was available.

Front Page 2003 is installed and working. I think Sharepoint Team Services and Front Page 2003 are the same thing right?

Well that was helpful. If you are going to point out they are not the same thing, then why not say what the difference is??

Sorry it took me so long to get back here. I was out of town last week.
Indeed, Sharepoint Services is not the same as Front Page extensions. They are a replacement for Front Page extensions. Microsoft did not include the new extensions in the original build. It would be lovely if they could be loaded up, but they do require SQL.

If Sharepoint needs SQL on the server it really would not be an option, also I don't think it will run with IIS running in IIS 5.0 mode on windows 2003.

No it definitely won't run without at least MSDE. And no, IIS 5.0 mode is a deal breaker as well. Add to that the need to have Front Page 2003 to fully take advantage of IIS 6.0 and Sharepoint.
It was just a thought....

my understanding is that while FrontPage 2003 uses the new sharepoint services on the web server tol replace the front page extensions, to actually utilize sharepoint services like file sharing and collaboration you must have a separate windows server running the data portion and it must have the sharepoint portal server software, and either MSDE or MsSQL installed.

Just posting a query followup if Vortech are going to support sharepoint team services?
I am starting to see other hosts starting to offer it and wondered if/when I will be able to offer it?

The problem from what I have seen is with sharepoint team services every site that uses it needs mssql for it to work and I don't think it supports IIS 5 as far as I know and since IIS6/win2k3 is still so buggy we will not support it any time soon..

Hi. Just following up on this discussion.. sharepoint "team services" has now graduated to something called "Windows Sharepoint Services"
See: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...t/default.mspx Does this make a difference to it's possible availability on Vortech's Win2003 Servers? Re the SQL Server issue - surely it doesn't require SQLServer to actually be running on the *same* machine as the web server? That would be a little silly if it's supposed to be able to scale up to web farms as it says it can... Looking forward to your thoughts...

Sharepoint on my SBS2003 boxes actually uses MSDE for it's DB iirc.

Is the DB on a different box from the Sharepoint installation? If so, Vortech need only install Sharepoint and then point it to one of the SQL Server boxes, yeah?
The main problem may be the fact that IIS is running in 5.0 compatability mode... if you switch yours to 5.0 mode, does it fall in a screaming heap?
