I would like to know what or who designates which email servers that are domians are pointing to. Is it random when we sign up new clients?

Trying to find out something here?

We designate a server as being on, or off to new clients. If you remove the mail service from a domain and re-enable it will go to mail3.

Thanks landiserve,

So if I remove the mail service that will automaically remove all the users emails which would have to be re-entered after re-enabling it?

" I'm not trying to sound stupid here" Just finding out info. :-)

Well mail and ns and mysql are on the same system from when we started using h-sphere we never really planed for it to take off like a bat out of hell like it did..

They will be moved around at some point to there own system but right they are working fine. Mail1 is its owner server and see how it does.. mail.hsphere.cc works great.. LoL

would by having some some of us move off mail1 to mail3 help with the issues? i mean cause if this what its going to take to help relieve the load etc maybe this is just something that we are going to have to do. and i know that everyone here would be willing to do this if it potentialy means our problems are going to go away.

if EVERYONE moves then the problems will be the same, but some moving wont hurt, just don't let everyone say jump at once.

that really isn't an alternative, it is still qmail, and we are thinking a lot about isntalling eps (the program behind efilter) and patching up qmail for high volumes, as well, adding MORE mail to the mail server will not help.

mysql.hsphere.cc is on that box as well I believe electricfox, so thats actually 3 resource hungry processes on it, its a historical thing really I guess, but looks like that may be about to change perhaps.

edit: doh should have read Brad's post, looks like he already explained that

I wouldn't exactly call NS a 'resource-hungry' process But yeah, we want to separate them eventually...

I think if a lot of people that read the forums moved, that wouldn't clear off mail1, since I doubt most of the domains on mail1 read the forums...

I guess by resource I really meant memory you've got 3 processes that really run best when they don't need to swap and can run free in real memory. In my experience Bind likes to use a fair bit of memory for cache unless you have a pretty small max_cache_ttl set, and certainly earlier versions didnt seem to like even using swap, idealy mysql should have pleanty of memory available to it as well for query caches etc

Yea we were looking at that the other day.. We have SBL and SA running and so far the queue is at 54 on mail1.. SBL has stoped about 35,000 spam mails from even getting to SA so that helped on the load side.

Matt also got some more patachs in qmail that should help at high load times as well..

We will see how this goes, if this does not help we may look at hspheresupport as an option as well.. But we can do everything they are doing we can by that eFilter for a stright $400 from the qmail site so we might do that before jump with them.

Cool. I was indicating the site so that you could check what their solution was. And if they have a proven solution that works, it sometimes help to get a partnership or something. Unless they just came with this without extensive testing...
