8/15 2003 SMTP on mail1.hsphere.cc

There has been a problem with a user attempting to spam through mail1. We have disabled the account, and we are currently removing the spam from the queue. Until this is complete, SMTP services will be down. We expect this issue to be resolved within the next hour.

Does this regard receiving mail?? I use POP3 to recieve mail and it will not let me receive any mail. I also cannot open my mailbox thru H-Sphere.

Just Curious if I need to submit a TT or if this is cause by this situation.

Thanks for the help.

No, this is only SMTP, and only if you are on mail1.hsphere.cc. All other mail servers are up and running.

Having the same problems as the user above:

1: Cannot use POP to retrieve any mail.
2: Cannot connect using @mail.

This means my email is effectively broken. I cannot receive anything.

Same problems here...and getting angry calls from customers. Nobody can get email using either POP or @mail.

Yeah, POP is obviously non-operational on Mail1 - almost all of my clients and my email is on mail1 and I cannot send or receive.

Unless if the incoming mail is backing up as well, you may want to verify that it's only SMTP that's out.

I'm no tech, but would it be possible to remove all the mail from the queue, get the mail server running, and just put the good mail back in the queue while it's running? You could still dump the mail you feel is spam, but it would get the server back online more quickly. Again, I'm no tech, but it seems like a possible solution.

Mail Server Issues

Hey Guys..

I know that 100% is hard to do but I'm getting pounded with calls and I really need somethng to tell these people. Mail1 is always an issue. Where's the redundancy?

I wouldn't be getting this upset but a 99 dollar monthly account is pulling the plug if it's not resolved soon...any help???

Matrix,

I have been extremely happy with most of your service and support BUT these ongoing mail issues are killing me. Once again I am ducking and dodging looking like a moron to my customers. I know your busy working on the issue, but WE MUST HAVE UPDATES.

Communication, communication, communication....

I will loose customers today. Several of my customers will move on and these were personal contacts not just fly by the night users. This is all due to on going mail issues. Once this fire is put out, I beg and plead to spend some time and if needed $$$ to expand your mail serving capabilities. More servers, better monitoring, better anti-spam tools.

You have a great business going and growing, don’t loose your momentum with these on going issues.

Apologies, POP isn't handling incoming requests. We are still cleaning the queue out.

Well this one is due to a user getting mail bombed with about 300,000 messages and growning we are clean it up but it is taking a long time to clear out all of these messages..

Tell your customers what is actually happening, the truth works wonders. Tell them that someone attempted to spam or mail bomb someone and it has backed up the que. There are 300,000 messages in the que right now. It is not like it is only 1,000 or some other small amount.
