Is the incoming or outgoing queue worse off? I've sent multiple test messages to myself to and from outside email and I've received a few, but not many. In fact, I haven't received the stuff I sent myself early today, but some from this afternoon has come through.

I'm not sure whether or not to think that some of that mail has just gone bye-bye, or if the queue doesn't work in chronological order.

I sent another test 20 minutes ago, and it hasn't made it yet. Seems like 1000 messages in the queue should send rather quickly.

The queue doesn't work in chronological order...

But I agree - if only 1000 messages are left, it seems that more of the missing mail should have made it to its destination by now... NONE of my self tests have made it yet, nor bounced. Makes me wonder what other client email I haven't received today.

In fairness, during all of the recent email issues, the tests eventually did all show up...

Doesn't make it any easier to wait and see if your customers needed anything during the day that you ignored, but... I'm hopeful that eventually the queue will be purged and all the mail will arrive.

For the record, I know of at least 6 emails sent to my account more than 9 hours ago that still have not arrived.

The server's operational status has been, as far as I can see, normal for the last hour and a half or so and the queue is back in the double digits. From now on it's a mop-up job or two that should have no impact at all on service since all the machine-intensive jobs have run.

I honestly don't know what happened to mail that didn't arrive after being sent but anything that has not shown up by now is probably resting in peace at the bottom of the bit bucket, for whichever reason. We'll conduct the post mortem and see whether something went wrong with the clean-up.

So based on the last reply, your stating that we shouldn't expect
anymore emails to come through that have been sent earlier in the day?

I really hope this is a misunderstanding on my part as I have been waiting on many important emails since early yesterday morning.

I believe you are misunderstanding a bit, since this is talking about hsphere, and yo use CPanel.

The CPanel team seems to have messed up an update, and that is why cpanel email is not working at this time, we have techs working on the issue right now.

I have accounts on both and the ones that aren't coming through are the Hsphere ones.
My Cpanel has been working fine all day.

CPanel Email Account Down Also

I have been monitoring the forum and everyone talking about hsphere email being down; cpanel email also is not working. I read the post about cpanel staff screwing up and update - cpanel email has been down for hours - what is the ETA on getting it up and running?

munizjm: messages that don't arrive within a few hours of service being restored have either been silently swallowed by the sending system or purged by mistake after arrival. I won't take the blame for all disappearing e-mail on mail1 but I consider it probable that some of it was eaten by one of our queue sweeps too. If you submit a TT with the addresses I can check and see whether e-mail from individual senders has been recorded as arriving here or not and report back to you.

Mail service on the cpanel server should also be restored to something resembling normalcy. The combination of recent operating system upgrades and the fairly big jump between cpanel versions meant that some older installations of particular software packages had to be wiped and recompiled against new libraries. Unreported instances aside, I have no indications that there was any data loss associated with that outage.

Would'nt it be possible to have a script that blocks an IP when it receives over 10'000 identical emails in a row from a server?

I thinking any mail list over 100 emails should somehow be pre approved by Matrix.

I think that'd me remarkably incovenient for those of us who send out regular newsletters or updates to legitimate opted-in subscribers.

When I worked as webmaster for a large webhosting company in 1998 the company was literally crippled for about 2 days with an email spammer.

I hope Matrix is pursing the responsible party, realize that you have legal grounds against them. We sued, and won - alot, and set the precedence that spam was wrong, especially when done to cripple a service (as it appears happened here yesterday).
