question about messages in queue

One more question: If we have any e-mail messages stuck in this queue while all the other stuff is getting sorted out today, when can we expect to start receiving them again? (I'm not receiving anything now, and am guessing my customers will start to notice the same soon)

One of these previous posts in this thread said something about this taking up to 5 days... and I'm hoping that wasn't referring to messages that have already been sent to mail1 users today. That's a LOT of effected customers (reseller and end-users) -- and telling them "we're cleaning up a spam" and anything including the phrase "...up to 5 days" in the same sentence just won't make sense - and is not acceptable - for these people.

I just got an email delivered to me that I sent myself an hour and a half ago.

I've also been sending messages to outside email accounts - seem to be taking about 40 minutes sending.

This is what qmail is telling me right now.

mail1:/var/qmail/bin# ./qmail-qstat
messages in queue: 37703
messages in queue but not yet preprocessed: 26470

messages in queue: 37703 ( These are messages qmail knows about and is trying to deal with. )
messages in queue but not yet preprocessed: 26470 ( these are messages qmail has not even got to yet. )

This started out at over 300,000 from one user... So mail sent to the server may just be waiting in the que here and qmail may not of got to it just yet. I am still waiting on the script to get done cleaning the messages out.

Once it finishes I am going to give the server a reboot and take a look from there as we have blocked the IP, removed the user, and blocked there email address.. So I hope it helps or stops them all together.

Okay, forgive my ignorance here, but is it the case that right now all the mail servers that are trying to send email to me and my customers are basically receiving a "busy signal" from mail1, and those mailservers will, in all liklihood, keep trying to "get through" for roughly 5 days?

And is it also the case that Vortech personnel is still scrubbing the spam out of the system, and that eventually any of my email messages already residing on mail1 will be accessible to me, and, once the spam is gone and mail1 is rebooted, all those other mailservers will no longer be receiving the "busy signal?"

If you could please just answer these questions in the affirmative, then I'll just make a few phone calls and knock off early today and check my email tomorrow.

Thanks guys and gals.

Not exactly sure if mail is getting bounced/retried or if the messages coming in are just at the end of a very long queue line, but I've sent test message back and forth between my mail on the mail1 server and outside email (hotmail). So far I've had one successful message sent to hotmail (took 40 minutes) and received one message from hotmail (took 90 minutes).

That was a couple of hours ago. I have yet to get any more of my test messages.

What's the queue at now? Because it seems weird that Brad shows 37,000 or so and then over an hour and a half later Kim says 31,000

Sounds to me like the server is just turtle slow now, or it's still getting pounded by spam.

At this moment it appears to be under 1,000. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it stays that way.

I have a question... is this happening hsphere only? or is Cpanel also involved?

Yesterday I lost mail and my WHM for a few hours, and found out that it was an upgrade on CPanel... today, it's out again, same thing, and haven't heard anything back on my ticket yet.

This issue is strictly in regards to Mail1.
