I like idea 1 and 2 both. At the very least I think overages should be discounted on higher plans like everything else. Historically overages are used to encourage people to upgrade and discourage them from abuse, however reseller plans , I think are a different model and need a slightly different approach, especially as you pointed out this is "allocation" NOT "usage" , which is a big diff. Matrix give us your thoughts

Thanks admin. A custom plan such as one with twice everything in the Zion plan at a little less than twice the current Zion cost (for volume discount) may be a good place to start if you're thinking that a new plan is the way to go. The most important thing to me (and probably to others as well) is hard drive space. So 6GB for this plan or maybe even more =) would be ideal. For things like bandwidth, number of HSphere accounts, or number of IP addresses (or anything that actually costs you a significant amount of money) maybe you couldn't go quite twice the amount in the Zion plan, but I think the price you are charging for extras there are more than fair currently so I think we'd all understand and not mind paying overages for those things.

Also, I *really* like mresell's idea about tiered hard drive overage pricing. Because, even with this new plan, we'd eventually be in the same position once we've filled up that plan. Maybe, something like:

Cypher $0.05/MB
Morpheus $0.04/MB
Neo $0.03/MB
Zion and higher $0.02/MB

Those are my suggestions and mine only... it'd probably be good to hear if something like this would be useful to other resellers as well. What does everyone think?

Thanks,

Adam

I'm happy to go with the flow, but I'd still like an answer to my question.

What a great idea, I have to admit I am no way near needing a Zion plan yet but when I look around on the web and I see someone offering 500 Megs for 7 dollars a month I start to cry. I know most people don't need it, but most people like to see it

What's Matrix's views on the usage vs allocation for space concidering something has been built into the new Hsphere?

I am not sure that hd space for that cheap is a good idea. Cheap is not what I am after. Support is vital. You can't have it both ways. Reasonable and predictable cost are my concern. I have never gone cheap... don't plan to. Do I have a budget, yes but quality is the most important thing. I think the main point of the thread is to find out about "predictable cost" and details that will affect your plans, billing etc... If your cost structure is going to change "negatively" as you grow then you need to plan accordingly. Obviously overages are supposed to be temporary and occur in nominal amts. $50 or + for a GB a month(depending on how you calculate a GB)obviously would not be cost effective. Everybody benefits from cost effective growth. I think that Matrix intimated(intentionally or not) that they would go to usage vs allocated for disk altho they seem to be clear now that they do not wish to goto usage for disk space. Which is why the plan structures become even more important and so does Garreg's partially answered questions.

Update,,,

Brad and I are open to the idea of the "Double Zion" plan,, but only for existing Zion plan users. He has some plan specs worked up and is going to post them here as soon as we go over some of the details... possibly as soon as later today.

Keep checking back here.

Good news and bad news:

I made a nice sale today, yearly prepaid for my largest hosting account, which includes 500MB of hard drive space. =)

A day or two from now, I'll be paying Matrix $300 for this. =(

I hate to keep posting to this board asking for updates, but every time I make a sale this delay means money out of my pocket. Has there been any progress getting these new plans ready?

Thanks,

Adam

Thanks Craig.

Can anyone tell us what the new plan is going to be and more importantly when it's going to be available? I was charged $180 in overages for one customer account earlier this evening. As soon as that same customer sets up his SQL space I will be charged another $120. I really need to find a way to get away from these overages

Thanks,

Adam
