5/6/2003 : NT5 Update

Because of the 11PM outages on NT5 we have installed URLscan and IIS Lock Down as it seems to be some kind of IIS worm. If this causes any issues with your scripts please send an email to support@vortechhosting.com

I will be doing the same on all the systems if this fixes NT5.

URLScan generally works well in its default configuration though may need some tweaking if people offer .exe and a few other extensions of files for download. IISLockdown imo is more trouble that its worth as it can be a little too rigourous in what it locksdown ... hopefully you didn't disable FSO when doing it as that could impact a few users.

If it does affect FSO, please consider other options. I have several sites that use FileSysObj. extensively.

It does by default iirc but I'm sure whomever installed it would have left FSO enabled, you can probably verify this pretty quickly by just testing one of your sites that does use it.

Problem with hosting

I've been getting outtages during the last two days on my domain citytoursnow.com, I was wondering if you could check it out and see what was wrong. My domain points to dns servers ns.hsphere.com and ns1.hsphere.com I have a massive presentation tomorrow regarding the site, and I really need it to be up for my client to see. Thanks very much.

if you are a reseller why are your domains pointing to ns and ns1.hsphere.cc? That is asking for trouble, even when the systems are 100%

when will NT5 be up and running 100% again? I have a domain running on NT5 and its been on and off for the last 2 days. Sometimes all I get is just a blank screen with NT5 written on it.

Thanks for the heads up though,

Vince

Please do not disable FSO ... I can't imagine the kind of damage it will cause.

It's good you brought it up, though. I wouldn't have ever suspected it was a possibility, even a slim one. I would have probably only found out from an irate customer.

So, be glad you brought it up
