Exclamation Anyone else experiencing intermittent email password failures?

One of my customers is complaining that she gets the username and password dialog popping up from time to time when Outlook checks her mail. You can see how this gets very annoying if you have it set to check for new mail every minute and the dialog pops up even 10% of the time.

I've been told that this is a problem in Outlook that sees the server being busy as a password failure and instead of retrying, it pops up the password dialog. This could be, but I've never had problems like this with any other server. Maybe the matrixreseller server is busier than those I've used in the past. It does make sense that it is traffic related since the problem goes away during certain times of day and increases during others.

Anyway, I guess I'm going to have to change servers if I can't stop this from happening. I really don't want to because I'm very satisfied with vortech in all other areas, but I can't have my customer angry because she has to close popups every 5 minutes.

Has anyone else had any similar problems? Any ideas?

NIGEL

It is as you suggest, a problem with the server(s) being busy...... if I recall it was the subject of discussion in another thread, can't remember exactly, but I think Vortech was working on a solution....... Sorry I couldn't help more.

I have the exact same problem and it's not with Outlook.

The server returns that the filesystem is busy. I usually recheck the accounts that failed and most of the time the mailbox has something in it.

The problem a few months back I believe was partially resolved by upping the concurrent user value on the mail-servers, perhaps this needs to be looked at again.

I think it is becuase that person is not a member, so they can't even see these forums, and many people don't take the time to load the instructions to learn how to get access.

For the record I have been getting password prompts all morning too, using Mozilla mail, so it is not just an Outlook problem.

Not sure about Mozilla Mail, but Micro$oft has this to add concerning outlook.

yeah, I use communicator, and it's a daily issue, typically 3-4 times per day. I get the 'busy' error, then have to wait about 5 minutes before retrying my password again.

My mail is only set to check every 10 minutes, but as I've said half a dozen times before, I think there are far too many users on only two mail servers. I've read that Matrix has about 800 resellers, and who knows how many direct users, so there must be 10's of thousands of email users.

That's a lot of work for the servers in my estimation.

It's not a problem with the password being saved, like this link refers to. The password is always saved, but sometimes a window containing the username and password will pop up and you have to click OK. When you do that, it checks again and works. I get these errors with Outlook and with the POP mail checking plugin to Trillian.

I actually had one pop up as I was writing this message. It's worse than usual this morning.

Happens all the time here... but I'm online all day/night so I see it more then most... it is annoying at best, disruptive at worst.

We know there is an issue with outlook 2002 but from this post it seems its doing it on every thing.. Can some one post what mail client there using.. Also our mail servers have ZERO load really but it may be something else we need to find or fix..

But I already had plans to add anther mail server in.
