Win2000 Scheduled Tasks
Can anyone help me determine a way to emulate a scheduled task under Windows 2000? I have a script I'd like to run at scheduled times, but am not quite sure how to make this happen. I don't think H-Sphere has any access to this, but that would make a great added feature.
Any help greatly appreciated. |

I think the only way to do this is to fake it using ASP. Here is one method, there are other similar methods too:

thanks vonbrocklin:
I actually built a script using the first method, that ran once a week on Monday mornings, and it was triggered by the first user after 12:01am Monday. The problem with what I'm trying to do now is that the script could potentially take several seconds to run, and it would have to run daily, so I don't want the first person each day to have a delay. With the other script, it was nearly instantaneous, so there was no noticable slow down for that user. Thanks again, though. I guess I'm looking for more of a real scheduling agent that could somehow tie directly into the server. I know we can't ask for server access, but sure would be a nice feature. ![]() |

Screw the first visitor at 12:01! It's not like it will ever be the same person twice.
Seriously though, I'm pretty sure this is your only option for scheduling tasks on a shared windows server. Could be wrong, good luck.

WinCron, I doubt this would ever get installed.

WinCron looks good, but you're probably right, that would be asking a lot of Matrix... sigh.
vonbrocklin, I agree, I shouldn't worry too much about that user, but I wish there was a way for their Session_OnStart to trigger the event, but for the event to run behind their session... With all the processing power of the men in this forum (according to electricfox's post a few days ago) we should be able to come up with a solution ![]() I'll keep looking. |
