network security issue
Hi,
I got an interesting thing that happened and wanted some input from users who deal with routers and security. Had a pc get knocked off then picked up a mac address that doesn't show up in ieee.org db with a strange ip that did not respond. Said it was iana.org, but that my not be true given the type of ip. I suppose my local isp could have a router or network glitch. I will keep an eye out, but thought I would get some feedback. May have been ddos, but only affected the one pc and I didn't pick up massive packets. Altho the router isn't suppose to respond to this anyway could have been something with dhcp tho. the ip was 224.0.0.2(all-routers.mcast.net). |

It probably is just a bit of DHCP weirdness since Multicast is a DHCP extension and starts in 224.* Technically 224.* is assigned to IANA as "special use."

Thats what I thought. This started when I limited the ips. I also thought the monitoring program might be triggering it. When I shut it down it didn't reoccur, but it hasn't been a day yet.
