I was thinking about that...
Trouble is it will be a huge amount of work to remove all my personal details from the scripts and change them to generic ones that others can use for themselves! But I guess....... There are also one or two problems with custom signup scripts - you can't currently check for an existing username, nor can you check for an existing domain name on the system. If you submit the signup data with an existing username or a domain you get the error in the style of the control panel signup window which looks bad and unprofessional. I have found a way around the existing username problem... but is quite long-winded: I also do all my own manual billing rather than use HSphere's own system because I have a nice merchant account processor who only charge $0.07 per transaction with no additional setup/monthly/percentage fees which I don't wish to lose. They're not supported by HSphere at the moment so I'm doing everything 'manually' by providing my own billing system as well. This is totally separate to the HSphere one; customers have a username/password combination for our billing system - which is our database so no problem about duplicate usernames as we can check for them! When they signup for hosting, the signup script autogenerates a control panel login using their billing username plus some other text (yet to be decided, but either numbers or the first few letters of their primary domain name) which, provided it is 'random' enough (without being difficult to remember) should prevent duplicate HSphere usernames. Domain problem is more difficult; I think I have a solution but I'm still working on it so won't describe it here yet as my post is already far too big! |

In order to do anything securely you will need a certificate - which only cost $49 (or less...)
If you don't get a certificate, you can still use the secure connection but you will be using temporary certificates which will generate an error similar to the other one you were getting about the control panel not being secure - words to the effect of: "certificate authority is not trusted" because you created the certificate yourself and it's not been signed by Thwarte, Comodo or whoever which rather defeats the object of the exercise - you might as well use the control panel one with it's certificate error message! |

My payment service provider is 'protx.com' but I'm afraid I think they only deal with UK customers. In terms of SSL certs, if you become a reseller you can get them cheaper than $49. My resellership gives me quite a reasonable discount but I better not say any more than that here or I'll be told off for advertising! I'm not entirely sure what the rules are about this sort of thing!

Resellership
Are you a reseller for GeoTrust? I would like to find a good SSL reseller program so that I can offer certificates to my customers.

ME Too
I am pretty sure we can discuss these sort of things here - after all this forum [customer only] is meant for this (well among other things) resellerx, we would appreicate if you could share this with us! Thanks Mate! |

(incognito...)Well if I get banned or anything, I'm coming after you! I don't know about resellership for GeoTrust - all I know is that OpenSRS sell them for $99 which means you can't make much over people like SSLPlanet.com. I am working with InstantSSL who offer resellerships for Comodo InstantSSL certs. They do, however, require initial investment of either $200 or $1000 to get the different pricing bands. Full details including pricing are all on the website. I haven't yet started setting certs up but I don't think the process is actually realtime - you can't just enter the temporary generated cert, press a button and it comes up with the new one; they have to do it manually I think and send it back but apparently the turnover is very fast. You do get nifty brandable control panels etc. If turnover speed is a major problem be warned that the company is based in the UK so if they only work during office hours (which as far as certificate generation is concerned is unlikely, it's problably 24/7) our UK office hours are, of course, 6 or so hours out of sync with the US. |
