PHP on UNIX15

Hello,

We are testing a new way to run PHP on the UNIX15 server. We have installed a new PHP system based on SUPHP. We have been looking at the system and logfiles for errors and have not found any, but if you are having and issues with your PHP pages please let us know by submitting a ticket with a link to your faulty page so we can track down your issue.

The SUPHP system has been installed for security and useability purposes. The system allows your PHP code to run as your userid eliminating the problem of files having ownership of the httpd server. Your files will only be readable by your own user. We will test the system for the next seven days.

Best Regards,
Aaron

Thanks a bunch for using a live server for "testing" . This has caused problems for my clients and has resulted in lost business leads and very potentially lost revenue. Could this not have been "tested" offline before messing with a production box? Does it even matter to you guys that you are potentially breaking important business websites?

hmmm, paulyc this was not tested on a live server at first for your information. We only put it live on this system after testing on a on a non-live system.

There is no way for us to work every single bug out as I am sure you can understand.

I have also not seen any reports that this change has affected any one in any way. Care to share your ticket number with me, I would love to check it out.

BTW when did you first see an issue?

I have a tech checking this out right, had you opened a ticket about the issue yet?

Absolutely Brad - ticket # QRX-20848-741

My client collects legitimate leads from a webform that stopped working because the mail() function quit working. Took almost two days to resolve. Pretty unacceptable if you ask me.

http://www.minfotech.com
they usually collect more than a hundred leads a day - with a 5% conversion rate. Thats nearly 10 lost sales which can vary from the thousands of dollars to the tens of thousands of dollars.

Your upgrade is welcome and appreciated but why use the language "We are testing a new way to run PHP on the UNIX15 server" if you have already tested and are now "deploying"?

Just curious...

not that I stick up for vortech that often, but you are running a business that makes thousands of dollars to 10's of thousands of dollars a day on a shared server for $35 a month? wow.

Well the mail() issue is fixed, that had 100% nothing to do with this upgrade and would have happend on the old version of php as well. This came from /var not releaseing space and thought the partion was full. Total unrelated to this issue although it's still a php function.

I thought the same thing when I heard about the mail() come to find out the 2 were total unrelated.

These leads are not converted immediately so no - they do not make tens of thousands per day. This is a valid hypothetical equation considering the amount of lost leads over a simple web form not working. Isn't that basic functionality that just about everyone uses?

What difference does it make that they spend very little dollars for hosting - all they need is a little reliablility that a simple web form will work.

Should that mean that this site is any less important just because they don't spend hundreds of dollars every month? Does Vortech place lesser value on the reliability of some customers sites just because they pay less?

This doesn't concern me since I believe none of my customers happen to be on Unix15. I believe this because I happen to keep track of where each customer is located at initial signup. However, not all resellers do that. What is the easiest way for me (or any reseller) to determine if they have accounts on Unix15 (or any server)?

Well maybe the two were unrelated but it's an awful coincidence.

Didn't your issue occur before Unix15 was modified?

You said the issue took 2 days to resolve and the first mention of work on Unix15 was at 8:15 this morning.

Brad, did the support team delay telling us or were the changes made this morning?

This is interesting question... Any solutions on this (except to login into accounts)?

You can do a Generic Search from your admin account (use the default settings but increase the "Entries Per Page" to something large enough for all your accounts). Then click on the account number next to each search result to see what server they are on.

I set my browser windows so the search results in a narrow window and the popup appears next to it. It can be time consuming if you have lots of accounts but it's faster than logging in to each account.

Does anyone else have a faster method?
