Send a message via ICQ to slips
Question e-mail notification to pager/phone (?)

Has anyone come across a Unix utility that will call a phone number when mail comes into a specific e-mail address? I don't need the e-mail message sent to the phone, just a ring to tell me to check that mail box.

Seems pretty basic, but I must be using the wrong google search terms. I can find a bunch of programs for windoze, but they are all bloated with features that I really don't need or want sitting on my PC.

Thanks for any suggestions.

There are a good number of snmp and log monitoring packages that will page you. Most will alpha page with the test you want. they are pretty flexable.

One example that I know off the top of my head is...

I don't know of a unix utility for this, but my cell phone carrier includes an email/sms address for my phone #. The format looks like this 5555555555@vtext.com . I use verizon for cell service. They may have it available for land line service as well. I use this to send text messages to my cell from my monitoring service, new sign-ups and the help desk. You could also forward this to any email address if needed. Your carrier may have this type of service available as well.

yeah, most mobiles have an email address. You just have to find out your email domain. Here's a few:

Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty good. I'm considering buying the enterprise version of that, though I'm also finding www.serverscheck.com one nice too.
