How long has this been going on? Has support responded at all?

Simply add DNS Text record for the domain under "DNS Configuration manager" and place the following line in the Data portion of the record, leaving the Name portion blank.

"v=spf1 mx ip4:216.157.128.0/19 ip4:216.81.64.0/20 ~all"

Be sure to add the above line without the quotes.

Also just to let you guys know, an spf record will not stop the block by comcast. Honestly if you guys have a major issue I would suggest emailing us at support@vortechhosting.com , we do not monitor the forum's 24/7 .

By leaving the "name" blank when adding the TXT record will this apply the spf record to all domains in the service account?

Also, will the lack of an spf record cause the open relay test to "fail" in a dns report and the presence of one cause it to "pass"?

ixie02 its my understanding this has to be manually added to each domain... an unbelievable pain in the A, especially given how slow the cp is these days.

Why has Vortech not implemented this system-wide?

I entered the spf record with nothing in the name field just like Danl said and within about 10 minutes the "open relay" tests on a couple of domains I looked at went from "fail" to "pass" status. I entered it as a TXT record. That's why I wondered if the blank name would suffice for all domains.

IIRC if you enter no name, it defaults to the domain name.

Is this something that each person needs to do? It sounds like the problem is universal in nature and to have hundreds or thousands of Vortech customers go through tens of thousands (or more) of accounts and domains makes this a problem waiting to happen. Any ideas?

I've added it to all the domains under my control. Each domain has seperate records so its probably a good assumption that it has to be applied to all domains using mail services.
(That is if you want spf ... at this point who wouldn't?)

someone is sending spam from your mail servers, and using my email addresses...

I have to post this. My email to support has not been received or posted to the online ticket area (most likely due to an overwhelming flood of spam hitting Vortech, in addition to myself)...

I suddenly started receiving minimum 300% more spam AND hundreds of bounced emails today indicating someone is using my address(es) in their own spammy ReplyTo fields. This has happened before, but looking at the message headers, the original (spam) message came from VORTECH's MAIL systems (mail1.hsphere.cc).

I'm logging in now to see if my account has somehow been compromised, but given other previous issues, I'm wondering if the Vortech systems have been hacked and are being abused. If I'm the only one reporting this, fine -- but if you're hearing similar reports, then I'm guessing someone has access to the servers and is able to export entire lists from all accounts, and use your systems as they wish.

The spam/bounced messages are coming from several of my email addresses - some of which I haven't used in years.

Any assistance would be appreciated... In the meantime, I'm digging around my accounts to see where there might be any problems

TK

Two of my personal email accounts have been used by spammers as well. I've been getting thousands of returned email. I set up an email rule in Outlook so that any incoming email that says "failed delivery", "email blocked", "failure", etc. will go into a special folder so my inbox is not so junked up. I can later browse through that special folder to see if anything is legit.

It's been an inconvenience, but I don't think there's much anyone can do about it.

Unhappy Same Problems

I see that I am not alone. I'm loosing customers because of Email issues.
Why is it that the servers all say critical or warning and are over loaded? you guys used to be great at distributing the load. I've been a customer for almost 8 years and this is the first REAL issue I've had. My people want to fire me and hire another company. I'll be out of business or have to switch hosts myself if this keeps up.

We aren't getting any answers. My people are getting SPAMMED to death. I'm looking into some type of spam blocker so I can divert my email to, say an MX server and then have a filter on that and then forward the email SPAM free. Does anyone have any suggestions on a Spam Filter?

Thanks In Advance.

Check out mailfoundry.com. Mail will be re-directed to them, filtered and then delivered. The only problem is when the spammer dumps the Spam on your IP address instead of the mail address. Those messages will get through without filtering. I have used mailfoundry for some weeks now and it works pretty well after some training.
