Angry VT Mail Server

Hi,

I believe all the VT Mail Servers are having problem in Sending mails.

Taking ages to send emails with attachments. Say with 5 MB Attachments takes 1 hour to send.

Anybody faces same issue?..

I had a call from a customer today not being able to send mail. I told her to change the SMTP port to 2525, and then magically her email sent.

However, there might be some other issues because some VT mail servers have been a been flaky. Do you know what mail servers are having issues?

some VT mails servers only allow sending mail trough port 2525. Also some ISP's block port 25.

Devils advocate .. most normal end users simply wouldn't be able to meet the Greylisting and Passivse OS Fingerprinting requirements using standard email clients .. but technically you can still send via port 25 (I just sent a test mail via telnet as a quick test to confirm).

Yesterday I sent an email to a client (also hosted here) and CC'd myself only to find my mail tagged as spam... Comcast also rejected 2 emails to another client in the last week (sending from mail1). Email is worthless these days, thank God for gmail.

What would be helpful with email is for vortech to publish an SPF record on the hsphere.cc domain and have the default SPF record changed to "v=spf1 mx include:hsphere.cc -all" or something similar, currently I resort to adding something like the below which should cover all vortech servers

"v=spf1 mx ip4:216.157.128.0/19 ip4:216.81.64.0/20 -all"

I would be super grateful if you could post how to do that. I know only some basic Telnet commands, but would love to learn more to assist in troubleshooting. Is there a general "telnet" guide so troubleshooting domain and email issues?

Thanks,
Blake

Blake a quick google for say "sending email using telnet" will get you a good deal of info on how to do it, generally I only use telnet to test the mailserver is answering by a simple "telnet mail.hsphere.cc 25" or "telnet mail.hsphere.cc 2525" sometimes I'll send a test email if I'm trying to debug things but generally when the mailservers down or under heavy load you generally don't even get the reponse to the initial telnet session so you already know somethings wrong
