thanks Josh
Was zend upgraded too? seeing a few zend warnings, but to be honest, can't at this stage seem to get php4 working either, even a phpinfo is throwing a 500 error. Should PHP be left enabled on the site or turn it off (I've tried both mind you). After creating the symbolic i'm getting a permission denied error when trying php4 -v from the cgi-bin directory, I'm guessing this is why my phpinfo isn't working too ? |

Any update on my issues please Josh? I've got one customer with over a dozen domains down, so as you can appreciate they're getting a little frustrated at the 3+ hour downtime so far for them (appreciate that's not your fault, but if we can get PHP4 working again it's will certainly help me out!)

Josh will the PHP4 fix you've now got working on Unix26 also be applied to Unix27 ? and will it also be implemented on the remaining servers when they are also upgraded to PHP5?

Is there any type of temporary fix for this - i have two sites down right now. One is oscommerce based and is not working at all and another is a gift card order form which is not working as well. I am losing money left and right over this.

Yes, its already available on Unix27 and Unix28. It will be applied to the others as their upgraded. In fact, if you put in a ticket before the day of the upgrade I'll make sure the PHP4 CGI is installed in your cgi-bin before the server is switched to PHP5. That way we can minimize downtime for your sites. BTW, this is just a temporary fix for those who can't get PHP5 working. There will be things that won't work the same as before, such as setting PHP variables. Also, as soon as PHP4 reaches its EOL we will remove it. |

Thanks Josh.
An idea also may be to put a copy of the PHP4 CGI binary on the support site as a download, then people can implement the fix themselves without a trouble ticket. Just a case of uploading it to the /cgi-bin then setting permissions to 0755 and updating the .htaccess |

For those asking about application problems, Horde/Pear is one. I had a client call and tell me that his horde interface was not working. Instead of the login screen, he got an error indicating that registry objects should never be cloned. The problem turned out to be a bug in zend compatibility mode, which is turned on by default in the new installation.
Once I turned off compatibility mode, I got a string of errors due to the include path changing in the new installation. I created new include paths in .htaccess for both the Horde library directory and the pear directory ( I was getting errors from both). After I resolved the include path problem, I got a memory limit problem. It seems that the new version of PHP uses more resources, so I bumped up the memory limit from 8M to 12M, and this seemed to resolve all the problems (I hope). I hope that helps someone nip problems in the bud before a client catches them. Here is a link for a bit more info: http://kb.swsoft.com/article_50_1679_en.html |

Came across this from another host:
Please be advised that the PHP 5 version on the server hosting your account is scheduled for an upgrade to version 5.2.1 on Mar/15/2007. Along with PHP, we will be upgrading Zend Optimizer to version 3.2.2. Minimal to none downtime is expected during the upgrade. IMPORTANT: A number of popular applications may require an upgrade to the latest version in order to continue functioning properly. Some of the affected applications include but are not limited to: - Drupal, versions below 4.7.6 and version 5.1 - Wordpress, versions below 2.1 - MediaWiki, versions below 1.9.2 - ZenCart, versions below 1.3.7 No applications running under PHP 4 will be affected.
