Outage 5/24/06
We had an outage from about 11:10PM until 11:40PM this was due to an issue with the core router. The issue has been fixed and is being looking in to the cause of the issue now.
Things should be up and stable. We are very sorry for any inconvenience. We will also have our off-site new site backup to help keep customers informed. But please also remember our main goal is always the problem at hand.

We are dealing with a pretty nasty synflood at the moment. It is causing router CPU to spike and Unix8 to become unavailable. We are continuing to work on the issue and will post back when we can.

Ok, the network end is stable right now. We are turning our attention to Unix8.

Unix8 should be responsive again. Aaron devised a way to effectively band-aid the server until the syn flood stops.

Once again the outage really just highlights to me how important it is to have nameservers outside vortech's network .. a perfect solution would actually be for 1 of each pair of vortech nameservers to be hosted outside vortech network eg ns1 and ns3, or at least on the border network so they're not effected by Barney if he falls over.
Failing that, letting us set up external tertiary nameservers (requires nothing more than a custom NS record for our service domains to be added to vortech DNS and we can handle the rest). What are the chances of either of those being considered? particularly the last becuase it then gives us the ability to do something about it without causing any real extra work for Vortech. |

Well by the time steve got the email the site was up, if you wanted more details you would need to ask is all. He answered your question, I don't see an issue unless you wanted more info and did not ask for it.
