2004-05-07: Network hiccup

Network seems to be hiccuping, Things on netblocks about 145 aren't responding from outside the network. Things 144 and below seem ok, but 145 is our main HSphere Block... :/

I am sure you are well aware, but in case you are not, mail1 is currently down.

hiccups

Do we know the cause for the hiccups???
Try having the server stand on its head for a couple of minutes, or maybe give it a glass of water.

I just had a customer call and would like to know the cause and/or estimated time of repair.

Hmm. I just went through a 15-20 minute blackout where I could not send or receive mail. Oh well, it is working now. Thanks.

Yes for some reason the new router wanted to try and take control of the routes. Not sure why and should not of done that. So we unpluged it so that will not happen again. Good news is we got BGP to work with the new router it seems, some how happend all on its own.. Kind of odd but still better then not working..

There is only one last step before fully switching to the new router and we hope to have that done by end of next week.

On that note I have info showing unix7, possibly only periodically, unreachable for about 3-4 hrs today. 3-6pm EDT Was this related to this issue?

I think this is ip related. Have ips been changed for unix7? I have not been able to find anything. I found some post... looks like this was done altho it seems confusing and lacking in specifics.

update: Rediscovered this in email...don't know about ip specifics, but apparently it was done 4/26. Don't know why it shows up now. Very confusing.

Mail server outage and IP migration

This notice concerns H-Sphere customers with users on the following servers:

mail
unix5
unix6
unix7
unix9
unix10
unix11
webmail

On Tuesday (tomorrow), 27 Apr, around 19:00 EDT (2300 UTC), we will take down the webmail server for a full system upgrade. Downtime is expected to be
less than 30 minutes. This upgrade should stop the SQL errors seen in @mail..

On Thursday, 29 Apr, at 00:30 EDT (0430 UTC) we will be taking down 'mail' for the upgrade that had to be postponed the last two weeks. Downtime is
expected to be about 60 minutes.

Today, tomorrow, and Wednesday we will be migrating the dedicated IP addresses on unix5, unix6, and unix7.

The IP migration map dedicated IP addresses on unix9 is posted in the forum at http://forum.vortechhosting.com/showthread.php?t=7568

Old dedicated IP addresses on the unix11 and unix10 web servers are being retired tonight.
