Wild West Domains

Evidently Wild West Domains has a new "API" reseller program. It allows one to develop their own signup, domain checks, etc. on a very custom level. I'm not exactly sure why, but it looks like they require their "service" be installed on the server it runs on. I was wondering if it would be a possibility to get that service installed, or if I need to keep looking for another reseller program.

Here is a paragraph referencing requirements in the PDF they sent me:

System Requirements
The following are basic requirements for using WWD API:
Windows
• Programming ability to build your own site.
• Generate XML documents and send to WWD.
• Install a Windows Service (provided by WWD) onto your server.
• Use of a database and a shopping cart solution.
• Create a secure connection using a secure certificate (X.509)
Unix
• Programming ability to build your own site.
• Generate XML documents and send to WWD.
• Install a PHP daemon (an example is provided by WWD) onto your server.
• Use of a database and a shopping cart solution.
• Create a secure connection using a secure certificate (X.509)
Restrictions
WWD API does not require the use of any specific language (e.g. C#, ASP, Java, PHP, etc.) as long as
the reseller submits the proper XML documents. Technical support and sample code for ASP and PHP
are available.
The only restrictions are the ICANN rules and other legalities agreed to in the reseller agreement.

The enom .dll is installed on pretty much all servers as far as I know. Personally I prefer the enom model over godaddys anyway.

Generally speaking, Vortech won't install anything that comes packaged as an .exe and I suspect this rule would apply to the WWD service.

you can afford the fees associated with the wild west api, I believe its over a grand..

I believe it's $99, but I think enom is going to be easier anyway. Thnx for the input.

$99 is the signup fee only, theres a minimum prepaid amount you have to fund your account with too, last time I checked the "Early Adopters Program" with the API was about $2k prefunded.

I have done testing and much research on wild west domains and after reading many opinions of other resellers on forums, I think enom is best.

newmem, if you want clients to be able to purchase domains themselves from your website, then go with enom.

I, however, primarily do web development, and hosting and domains are just add-on sales for me. Since I purchase the domains on behalf of my clients, the WWD system makes better sense for me. Only $99 per year for the reseller program, and the buy rate is $6.95 per domain. THIS IS NOT THE API! This is only a reseller program, where they give you a generic storefront. You can't customize it to look like your site.

Just depends on what you want to do.

their reseller interface with the same lady's picture page has become too common now. Seen it too many times with different rate sheet each time........always go for unique page design unless you are the one who's going to handle each domain setup and the end users are not going to make the payment directly through reseller website.

that's what I feel........but if the numbers are too low then it would be ok for some. But I would never go for that.

Enom requires a minimum deposit of $495 if I'm not mistaken.....

This 8.95/domain.... if you want to be competitive in pricing (ie around $10/yr), this means you'll make about a dollar on each domain you sell.

For $75 you can get $6.99 domains from DIRECTI ... thats not $75 setup either thats just what you need to deposit. No setup fees and you get a customisable store front.

I tried Directi for a while. Connectivity is terrible and unreliable. New interface looks great, but is very buggy and again, unreliable. Price is great, but if you can't get through . . . don't make a world of difference. I bagged them.

I'm with most others, eNom is the way.

Don't pay any fees. Buy a 6.95 account on ebay or if that doesn't make sense base on your volume, let me know, I'll give you an $8.95 account for free.
