HSphere vs Cpanel
I am curently with another host in a shared hosting plan with Cpanel and I am thinking about moving to Matrix. I would not be publicly reselling but would use the reseller package for my 6 domains and would offer hosting for some of my clients.
I am trying decide if I should go with an HSphere plan or if I should stick with Cpanel. Since this would be my first reseller package I have gone through the demos for HSpere and WHM and it all seems pretty straight forward. If I went with an HSphere plan are there any compatability issues that could pop up with any of my PHP apps due to being in a FreeBSD environment vs a RedHat environment where they now are? Does the Cpanel plan not offer custom nameservers like the HSpere plans? If not are they available for an extra fee or not ever? In either plan when I start out am I able to set the size of my main account the same way I configure a new plan for a client and will it have all the same features of a plan I would make for a client as well as all the admin tools? In other words do I sign up for the account with my main domain for my business (which needs about 300Mb and databases) and that will be the admin account or is it best to sign up with a different domain for the reseller account and set up my main business domain as a plan under that reseller account? For nameservers can I name them for any domain I own or do thay have to be the domain that the reseller account is made for? Thanks ![]() Last edited by Light Speed : 09-07-2003 at 12:12 AM. |

If I can add another question to that...
I have looked in the FAQ and it mentions "overage" costs for Mb storage and Gb transfer. The question (relating to HPhere specifically) is, when you set a client up as having say 2Gig transfer allowance, do they: 1. get "cut off" when they hit that limit ("server too busy" message or something) thereby not affecting your own reseller limit, OR 2. Can they keep pumping over allocated bandwidth and it's the reseller's responsibility to bill them accordingly (and thereby get billed by Matrix accoringly if over the reseller limit)? It would be nice if you had the choice - so that if you, as a reseller, have enough clients that you are hitting your limit, that you can set "hard limits" for them so you can be sure you won't go over. Your clients can then just buy more traffic allowance from you and you will only then go over your reseller limit by that extra amount. Know wha' I mean? Sorry for the long question!

1) You have the option of automatically suspending customers when they reach their traffic limit or a certain % over their limit
2) For several resources such as traffic you have the ability to set 2 different prices, one is their upgrade cost and the other the overage cost, in the case of traffic you may want to set an overage price so that they are charged automatically when they go over their limit. Generally you set the overage charge to be more than the "upgrade" cost so they they are encouraged to upgrade their plans with more traffic rather than go into overages every month. If you don't set an overage price your customer will not be billed anything for exceeding their traffic allocation in any one month. Quote:

Hope that answers a few of your questions anyway ![]() Last edited by Brangwyn : 09-07-2003 at 07:36 AM. |

Thanks Brangwyn
![]() Actually my current host just switched PHP from running as Apache module to running as CGI and they enabled phpsuexec. Are there and plans for Matrix to do the same (please say no)? Also if anybody knows the answer to my cpanel and custom nameservers question that would be great ![]() |

I believe we are keeping php as an apache module, I don't know of any plans to change, however I will say again, I am NOT the final word on an issue like that.

Mat (Bladesnitz on the forums) is the head unix admin, he would be the say. Anybody know if I can get custom nameservers under a Cpanel plan? Yep, you have to send us a ticket and tell us what you want them to be. |
