Interpreting modlogan

OK, I admit I'm a dumbass sometimes. What is the difference between a "hit" and a "visit" when viewing the modlogan statistics? And I'm assuming "files" means total files downloaded counting jpegs, html, etc. I'm looking at an obscure site I created and it's showing tons of visits. I think something is not quite right here. Comments?

Typically, a visit is a unique session ID and a hit is any http request - a page with 10 images on it results in 11 hits - one for the page and one for each image. If the user retrieved the page twice within 20 minutes and without closing and reloading their browser, it would be 1 session/visit.

AOL however often initiates a session for each hit on a page so that same page with 11 hits could result in 11 sessions if the client-side was aol.

ISTRC that the css file counts as a hit as well.
