IPv6 - An offer to Vortech customers, and a qustion for Vortech

I'm currently having IPv6 tunneled into my server colocated at Vortech. If anyone else here wants to experiment with IPv6, please let me know, and I can provide you with addresses and a gateway back to IPv6-land. It's not super-fast since the far end of my tunnel is on the west coast, but it's sufficient for experimentation. I can give you basic instructions for Linux/BSD/Unix systems, but I can't provide a bunch of support for free, and I can't tell you anything about how to set it up on Windows.

Also, I can provide limited free IPv6 DNS service, but not too much for free, since DNS service is a large part of my business.

Again, this is for experimentation only, not production services, as I do have to pay Vortech for all the traffic that goes out to the internet through my IPv6 tunnel :-)

And the question for Vortech is:
Is there any software in the switches that will prevent native IPv6 traffic from passing to other vortech customers? Do you have any plans to start playing with IPv6 or get a native IPv6 connection from your providors?

Thanks,

Sacha

I have not played with IPv6 that much yet.. But I will find out if Level(3), Epik and cogent can support and if our routers can support. I know the core router should be able to..

As for the passing of IPv6 traffic, nothing is really in place for that right now as we don't really support IPv6 as of yet..

A lot of our software like H-Sphere and stuff is not even close to supporting IPV6 as of yet.. Our windows 2003 servers and freeBSD servers should be ok with IPv6 but have to wait for everything to support it or to support both..

OK, thanks. I believe that unless you have L3 switches that prohibit IPv6, it will pass over them transparently. If that doesn't work, I can also tunnel IPv6 over IPv4 to anyone interested. It's one of those standards that's not being adopted very quickly, but someday we'll all have to use, so I figured now's a goos a time as any to start messing with it....

So again, if anyone (particularly other colo customers) wants to experiment with it, just reply to this or email me and I'll get you all setup on my end...

Sacha
