graphic designers: would this be helpful to you?

I don't know about you, but I've always dreaded comping - I'd make three or four comps for clients to look over - and they'd never make up their mind. The problem grew worse when there was a team of decision makers involved - it was impossible! So I set out to solve this.

How it'd work: you have a bunch of comps for a new logo or design that you want your clients to review. Your clients visit this site, and see your logos presented in pairs, and are asked to click the one they like better. For them, each vote is quick and easy, even if the designs are VERY similar -- because we're much better at making binary decisions than multivariate ones.

You get a report with a breakdown of how the logos fared, from which you can create your final.

- increase the granularity of your comps -- whereas it was always difficult to solicit clients for minor differences between designs, likebetter's system forms networks of opinion, allowing us to sift out which one of minor changes they prefer

- it'll make the comp decision process faster. you used to have to wait at least a few days for a decision, now your results arrive as soon as they've viewed the designs

Anyway... that's the idea. Do you see yourself using this? Any other thoughts on helpful features?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated, negative or positive. I don't want to walk down this path if I'm the only one in the world who thinks this is a problem. Thanks.

Here's an example of what the client would see:

Shirt Front Design: http://www.likebetter.com/channel/pe...b/XobniTshirts

Shirt Back Design: http://www.likebetter.com/channel/pe...bniTShirtsBack

Of course minus the "likebetter" branding around the top and bottom.

Wow. Never thought about it much beyond being irritated. I think you are on to something. I'll use it on the project I'm working on right now.

Thanks for the time-saver tip!

Wow, thanks guys! I hope it works well for you!

I'm planning on fleshing out the "designer" side a bit more, namely adding features like:

* no auto-cropping, so you can upload whatever size pic you want
* ability to customize the design or put a widget on your site, so it looks like it's your own
* better stats, like who liked what

If you have any suggestions, do tell.

I like this idea. I do some layout design for customers, but I always just email them a gif file with the different layouts. I just did one with 4 different layouts. I sent it to the sole decision maker.

You might consider an option for more than pairs displayed.

BTW, I'm in the promotional products industry and you could be a vendor to supply this service. There's a website that does proof approvals. Basically we go there to approve the proof and add comments. The manufacturer is then quickly notified of the approval or changes. It eliminates the need for faxing proofs back and forth thus saving time and money.

Just a thought.

thanks Michael. We've considered this (showing more than just pairs). However, the nice thing about the pairs is it makes it so gosh-darn easy to decide. Human beings are really just binary decision makers - anything more than that is just emulation!
