Network Outage 3/15/06

Hello all.

We had a short outage there.

We were working on a fairly involved network upgrade. I was in the middle of manipulating a vlan on our core switch when the vlan collapsed. This was unfortunate due to the fact that this was the vlan that allowed us access to many of our network devices. Because of this it took some time to restore the connectivity.

We have reverted to the configs we were using prior to this update. We will need to scedule this upgrade again at some point.

For the time being we plan to leave things as they are.

Thanks for the update! I'm not entirely sure what it means, but I have faith that you do. Obviously Nagios was scary earlier, but I knew y'all were on it as servers dropped off the critical list.

All seems right in my world again... thanks to all you techs!!!

Thanks for the info, although not sure we share the same definition of brief .. 5-10 minutes is brief, 60-90 minutes .. not so brief

Shouldn't that kind of thing have been posted? even if expected to be non-disruptive, probably a good idea to just let people know ahead of time theres something going on, even if the only potential impact is some packet loss or latency.

The "brief" outage, had the forum offline for over an hour, so we couldn't even see if something had been posted to advise what the issue was whilst it was happening.

Dean was working on the issue with us. We were actualy all here.

As for an announcement. I beleived that this had been announced, But I guess that it had not been sent out in an email. Just a forum thread.

I'm not having a go at anyone about the outage either, everyone knows stuff happens that can't always be anticipated .. just you can appreciate the frustration it creates when things go bump in the middle of the night for no good reason

I went to open a site live, found I could not .. then looked at all my sites one of my plans is down ... all the sites on that plan are down, the space section says no mbs are available .... and your going to say so open a ticket... I go to login and it won't accept my email and pw ... which I have listed in my pw program so I won't forget ... all my sites are still down ... yes i did the recent update ... so do I register again? oh ... doh... perhaps it won't work because the email I'm using to login is one of the sites that is down or does that have no bearing?... do I register with another addy? ... help. TinaClarke@frontpage-tips.com is one of sites that is working if any admin can help me.. or at least tell me it's ok to register again.

everything started working again, but I still can't log in to submit a ticket if I need to. I finally saw the lost password button, it says my email is not registered ... what a PITA .. .I guess I have to register again ...

Would this outage caused email issues yesterday evening also? Is there a particular notification list we need to be so we are aware these things are going on via email?

just do it
Do you know that you can send an email to support@vortechhosting.com and the ticket system will automatically recognize you and create a ticket ? But first you need to register your email of course.

I had the same issue, registered again with the same email address and did the confirmation thing. Then logged in and it showed all my old tickets like I had never had a problem......Strange
