When checking email, what's network password?
A few of my clients come to me with this problem, and I pass it off to their network admin. However, I'd like to know more information about it.
An POP3 mail account is created and is also setup in Outlook. When the user tries to download email, a box pops up asking for the NETWORK PASSWORD. Neither the email password nor the computer login password will work. In the end, the user can not retrieve email using Outlook. Can someone tell me how to solve this issue? Thank you. Mike |

On the email acount setup, is "Remember Password" checked? Are the Outgoing Server settings related to password correct?

Be sure to check the SMTP setting box "Use POP3 Password" (or words to that effect) and set the auto send/receive to a shorter time frame.
Many isp's require you to login for both sending and receiving email in the belief that it helps prevent zombie PC's being used for mail relays. Some also have a network timeout that's pretty short.

I've seen this happen to my customers sometimes with Norton or McAfee antivirus where they intercept pop transmissions to filter for virii. Check to make sure that their a/v software is behaving normally - I've found a restart usually makes the problem go away temporarily. A more permanent fix would be to use a better a/v program like Trend Micro.
