Mail5 / 11/3/2005 12:00p

Many customers are reporting in with issues sending mail through this particular server and/or possibly receiving many duplicates of emails once messages are received by the recipients. Our administrator is currently looking into the situation and believes the issue may be caused by a spammer, but this is not 100% certain as of yet. I'm establishing this thread since we do seem to have a common issue, and we will update this with more information as it becomes available.

Please try and refrain from sending test messages. It is overloading the server and making it very difficult to troubleshoot the real issue. We will post any new developments in this thread.

Appears to be fixed now. The vdelivermail binary stopped functioning properly. I have replaced the binary and every test so far has been successful.

Just received an update. It was not the same issue as per yesterday. It turns out that the bounces from today's SpamCop incident are boggin down the server. Our Mail Administrator has cleared this up and mail is sending as of this moment.

Still running very slow... just had a complaint from a user who sent an email to his supplier and they recieved approximately 30 copies of the message.

Tried a test within the last 5 minutes, from mail1 to mail five took about 5 minutes to show up.

What should I tell my customers?

I can say when I server goes offline, especially mail, since the RFC dictates to queue mail the server will have to catch up. Time will have to be given in this matter. We are monitoring the server and will continue to monitor. I apologize for not being more descriptive in my update. We are processing mail, but are not out of the woods per any means. We need to play catch up now. Patience is greatly appreciated.
