We signed up for WebSitePulse monitoring service a while back.

It monitors your designated servers (all sorts of protocols) from various locations and lets you know (sms,email) when they go down.

You can also then get uptime % for any server for a given period and it has an XML interface for getting status of monitored servers.

We now only use it to monitor a server we have elsewhere, but during the trial I did monitor the vortech mail server just out of interest.

I really liked all the functionality of the Server Status 2 script. The only drawback I found was the inabilaty to edit a server once it was added. It had to be deleted and then re added.

We need something more powerfull than just port checking.

THe CP is error 500 right now and a port probe would not indicate this.

WebSitePulse also has a URL check which will poll a specified URL using HTTP, and raise an error if a certain keyword is found or not found in the response.

I use it to hit an ASP page which just opens my database and then closes it.. if the word "OK" does not get returned, it flags an error to me.

Quite powerful stuff really and very flexible as you can write an ASP page to check virtually anything really.
