Consider this a learning experience, and get your customers to backup their data frequently if they've made changes. Vortech backups are made to be able to restore a machine to within a resonable point in time if theres a failure (generally ~24 hour period). Primarily the backups are for their use, not for us or our customers to rely on (hence there being a rather horrendous charge for even asking them to restore a file from their backup set). |

I've been told that the server is backup once per day. But the files the restored must have been Monday or before. Shouldn't it restore tuesday or wed??

They could be at least 24 hours old, and if there was a problem with those backups then they'd have gone back to the next available ones.
Bearing in mind, this servers been up and down now for 16 hours or so, that may well put the backups 40 hours old if not a little more asuuming they stopped any backups scheduled from running whilst doing the repair. Or worst case, a backup may have run whilst the repair was being done, resulting in a backup set that had some sites correct, some incorrect which would probably have forced them to go back one more day to ensure they were working off a complete backup. I'm sure Brad will post all the info when the issue at hand is resolved, until then, the priority will be to get the server working using the most current and complete backup they have available. |

This was my last update from the tech still working on this:
Deans robocopy restore is taking awhile on one particular user, he has ~24000 files It's still going.. Due to drives failing, metabase going bad and psoft bugs it was bad, this should have been a super fast fix, trust me mangers and techs are much better aware of how to fix this issue faster next time with out having to worry about buggy scripts or anything. We made some small backup changes that should further help provent metabase issues causing such a huge issue or downtime.

It was a long night but I think we learned a lot last night about metabase's, psoft bugs, Norton ghost, HD's dieing when ghosting to them..
Fun Fun.. We are now going to make some small changes to the newer backup system to see if we can't make it better as it would have been faster had it worked fully. Thank god I like to keep old stuff around like the old backup system. It might be slower but it works. lol
