Exclamation 6/3/03 New SPAM Blocking Measures

We have now taken further steps to block SPAM traveling through our mail system by implementing an RBL (Realtime Blackhole List). The RBL we are using is DSBL.
Also, no one will be able to send mail from a domain that is not hosted on our network. Any mail sent from a non-local domain address after the 10th email will result in the sending address being blocked. What this means is that no large amounts of bulk mail with a non-local from address will go through past the 10th try.

The DSBL will reject all email coming in from a host that is known to be an open SMTP relay.
We feel that the measures we have taken will improve our mail-server performance and reduce the amount of SPAM received in your email.

We have also removed the 5MB email limit as we see no reason to limit this now.

great stuff guys, lets all keep fingers crossed.
"The mail must get through!!"

on a tangent, i was thinking what the wild west must have been like in your country, with multitudes of Wells Fargo carriages thundering over the midwestern plains all packed to the brim with great swathes of fliers for penis enlargement pills and mortgauge reductions, and the odd letter to Jesse James from his mum.

Well today just got out of hand in less then 1 hour some spammer off our network sent all of our users 10,000 messages.. We had 10,000 messages in the que at one time from him.. We put the RBL stuff on there and spamguard and it seems to of stoped all of it.. We also blocked the spammers C-Block as well on the router that sent the 10,000 messages..

That sounds great. Well, the spam blocking part I mean.

Just want to make sure I understand it.
I will still be able to use MS Outlook for sending and receiving any emails (barring the spam coming in) Right?

What about large mailing lists? Is this still ok for our outgoing clients using opt-in/out lists like my ministry newsletters?

Thanks

so will this stop my "get bigger balls and penis" emails? or the HGH emails or the "viagra superstore emails"? that would be so cool, because they obviously have the wrong guy

Legitimite messages being bounced

I am not sure if other people have started hearing from their customers, but I now have a list of approximately 10 different domains receiving bounce messages over the past 24 hours? Has anyone else heard similar stories?

If there sending you emails from an open relay server then they will get bounces as that is where 95% of the spam comes from.. If some one can post a copy of a bounce like that I can tell you why it did bounce..
