MSSQL7 is having hardware issues at the moment.
Our technicians are working on this right now.
More details will follow when they become available.

Just wanted to let you know we do have a complete backup of all user databases from this morning at 6AM EST.

That's good to know, but it doesn't really help anything that was done today.

It's not a killer for me if the data has to be restored from backup, just a bit more complicated

Of course we may be speaking out of turn, because we don't know what the actual problem is yet.

The server is back up. Database content was not affected.

There were two issues. A bad cdrom drive was keeping the server from getting past the initial bios check. Windows was then reporting several corrupted DLLs.
