On a purely technical level I don't see why one would need any client-side junk. If your local nameserver will return a response for it, it works and that's the end of it. Ours won't but then you shouldn't be using our nameservers from home.

MSIE (and possibly others) have the ability to configure dns "helpers" ala hosts files. That's what the plugin is. The more "reputable" alternative TLD providers recommend pointing to their DNS servers the way you're talking about.

The plugin folks have the option to stuff new settings (and ads perhaps, or other naughty stuff) via the plugins - they wouldn't have that ability with mere DNS settings.

Just something to keep in mind, I always hate telling someone that they need to "pay" their way out of a problem, I feel like a sleazy mechanic or car dealer, but those aren’t our rules, talk to your registrar.

Note that this only applies to a .biz or .us name that is being used as a service domain, any other time you don't need to register your name servers and it's no problem (i.e. 99.99% of the time).

I am having a problem transfering a .us to my opensrs account. There seems to be a problem with the Auth Code. I am transfering from Melbourne IT. www.melbourneit.com.au

Has anyone ever had problems with this resgistar? They sent me the Auth code but it still gives me an error on the transfer. They now say they cannot help any more.

BTW the .us account has been setup here and I was able to point domain here thru Melbourne interface.
