Yep same server, some get it some don't.. That is what makes the problem even hard forus to fix.. 5 computers in our office use outlook XP and they all check mail every 5 min or so but only one gets the message.. Its veyr very stange..

I also have noticed a VERY slow response on mail send lately. When it gets to the "send" portion of send and receive, the outlook notification box hangs for 5 or more seconds before actually doing anything. Then it finally sends the message.
On a related note, unlike a lot of you, I have not been getting the password pop-ups lately. Not sure why, but I just haven't been getting them lately whereas I used to get them frequently.

Yeah, I'm seeing the same thing. I've seen delays from 7~21 sec. before actually sending the data. For me, this started on Saturday. Usually the mail just vanishes when I send it, but now I watch to make sure they go.

hrmm... the sending problem may be related to a dns check I added that ensures incoming mail can be replied to (otherwise we end up with a message bouncing around in the system for a few days, multiply that by 1000 per hour and it affects the mail system a lot)... Ill see if I can't get speed that up...

Just had someone say that for about the last 12 hours phpmail() has been having problems periodically, looks to me as if about 1 in 5 times its just timing out, realated possibly ? this is an IPB forum where the problems are happening.

Yes it is/was using localhost its on a Unix account. I changed it to use SMTP instead to see if it made any difference I think phpMail() was timing out trying to send any email, hoping SMTP is a little more tolerant.

Guys Just do the following Changed to your outlook Account settings and trust me you wouldnt complain and / or make the administrators life miserable.
Leave the account settings exactly the same as you used to have earlier, but uncheck the point "out going Mail" Uncheck "My out going mail requires authentication". Worked for me fine. Regards, IMRAN. |

This is just one solution to a problem that poped up recently.
The problem most of us are having is with retrieving mail and that has been going on for ages. I just hope that the recent discoveries about the program that is not appending stuff is the real thing and that it will be quickly solved. |

Hey Bladesnitz: Any luck with the delay for sending through SMTP? This just may be coincedence, but I sent myself 4 test messages (all short text messages) and they took either 27 or 28 seconds to send. Don't know if that's the magic number for anyone else, but thought I would point it out. Oh, that's for Netscape Communicator ver 7 - I also tried Outlook and it seemed to take about 5 seconds longer than that even. |

The line about turning on authentication is in the OUTLOOK EXPRESS/OUTLOOK section of the page. It specifically says "Also check the box that says "My server requires "Authentication"" Here's the whole section cut and pasted to help you find it: "Outlook Express (note: most UNIX customers have an Outlook express autoconfig in their control panel. Refer to your welcome email for details.) Microsoft Outlook Using POP Access for Outlook/Outlook Express: Goto "tools"..."accounts"..."add"...."mail" Go through the wizard and put in this general info: Incoming: mail.yourdomain.com Outgoing: mail.yourdomain.com Account Name: username@yourdomain.com Password: your password Once you get through the wizard....close it out, then go back into "tools"......"accounts" highlight the new account you've created.......click on "properties"..... Goto the "servers" tab. Make sure all the info is correct,,,,click on "remember password"..... Also check the box that says "My server requires Authentication"....."settings".......click on "same as incoming" " |

Okay...sorry if it's been discussed before. I'm a fairly recent new customer (within the last 3 months or so). But, don't you agree that the documentation is incorrect and should be changed ? |

pentom, yes it does, I do agree, it at least needs to be pointed out who it is for, I am working on that, but today has been a busy day for Admin.
