@Mail Issues
Hello all,
I have some customers that really need to use webmail every minute, and it is offline for more than 30 minutes. This is not the first @Mail's issue, wich makes me think that maybe there is a better solution. What do you guys have to say? Thank you. |

If you are having an issue then I would recommend submitting a TT. The techs monitor the tickets more closely than posts made here.

You could also install another email solution for your clients on your service domain, anything with IMAP support should work well .. SquirrelMail, Horde, OpenWebmail etc etc. The only problem with doing this is that the links in your customers control panel would still link to @mail.

I am going to get matt to upgrade the @mail system ASAP. We installed CF1 but I don't think we will need it for some time as there is only 80 sites using CF total right now.. So I think we may pull the CF1 box out and make it in to the new @mail box.
@mail right now is on just dual PIII 1000's with 1 or 2 gig of ram. We will be taking that to a dual xeon 2.4 with 1 or 2 gig of ram. I think its more CPU then ram since its all perl.

I really like @mail... ALOT! However... I am really interested in other solutions that I could administer and modify myself. My strenth is ASP and ADO... Not PHP at all.
Here's what I found out about the three mentioned above... are there others? What is SquirrelMail? http://www.squirrelmail.org/ SquirrelMail is a standards-based webmail package written in PHP4. It includes built-in pure PHP support for the IMAP and SMTP protocols, and all pages render in pure HTML 4.0 (with no JavaScript required) for maximum compatibility across browsers. It has very few requirements and is very easy to configure and install. SquirrelMail has all the functionality you would want from an email client, including strong MIME support, address books, and folder manipulation. What is Horde? http://www.horde.org/ Welcome to the home of the Horde Project. Here, you can find the PHP-based Horde Application Framework and our suite of web applications using it, from the widely used webmail program IMP to the contact manager Turba, the calendar manager Kronolith, and many others. Are you a PHP application developer? The Horde Framework provides backend-independent interfaces for dealing with preferences, logfiles, MIME, hierarchical data, authentication, data formats, encryption, forms, session handling, file storage, remote procedure calls - and more is on the way. What is Open WebMail ? http://openwebmail.org/ Open WebMail is a webmail system based on the Neomail version 1.14 from Ernie Miller. Open WebMail is designed to manage very large mail folder files in a memory efficient way. It also provides a range of features to help users migrate smoothly from Microsoft Outlook to Open WebMail.

WOW!!!
I have a question though... in using these packages... do you still have to use cpanel or H-Sphere to add/remove/modify new POP accounts? (EDIT) Or can you use the "catch all" method and jmail client access to use one main account. (That may not make sense)

You'll still need to use your control panel to add/create mailboxes etc.
