Basically what was happening was that they sell t-shirts and each design has a range of colours and sizes. the options however dont allow you to turn off a particular colour and size combination, if they go out of stock for example. So all they could do is turn off the entire colour or entire size for a given design. was a real pain really.

Also my other gripe with CP is that they (same client) are just about to put another range of products up on the site and each size option has a different sku. Which CP doesnt handle.

Otherwise it works great. Ive written many sites using it and have never really had any trouble adding mods for it

Nice site btw Boot.

I had the same trouble with a high dollar (StoreFront) . I've written (here I think) before that any off the shelf solution is going to need some modification.

That said... if anyone has made CandyPress work with shoes, I'd be interested in talking. Model>gender>Category>color>size>width (about 4900 possible skus for each model) i made a cool grid for Storefront but closed that store a couple of years ago.

OsCommerce should do what you want but I think it's a bit clumsy the way you have to do it in the admin panel. If you have a lot of products with lots of options it will take some time to get them entered, but it works. Options such as size, color, ect appear in drop down boxes on the public side and can add or decrease the base price. It worked for me on a site that sold hundreds of styles of gold chains, each style having different lengths of chains, and of course the longer the chain the more expensive it is. Thus, each style became a product, and the lengths were options of the product. Customizing the look is difficult; consider buying a template.

I'm pretty sure the options per item would require a unique sku and possibly a unique image for each option.

Most of you all seem to run CP is there anyone that runs osCommerce?

Also what kind of payment gateways is everyone running?
In the past I've been a fan of Paypal Web Payments Pro but I know Vortech doesn't really support that at this time.
What else is good?

this is the mod i use for enhanced inventory management... looks like the developer will be updating for the latest version of candypress -- this mod has been very helpful to me and my team.

In my quest to open up my very own little etail shop, I must present another question.

Many Thanks to those who introduced me to CandyPress. Everyone has presented such good arguements to both solutions, I think I'm going to leave the decision between CandyPress and OsCommerce to a coin toss

My second question is which payment gateways work on Vortech without needing a dedicated box. Is it possible to run an ecommerce site with SSL and credit card payment gateway as one of the run-of-the-mill accounts under a reseller, I know this may be a novice question but none of my customers have ever had to do ecommerce, at least not in the traditional sense.

i have had great success with authorize.net and ssl certificates in the shared environment offered here at vortech. I also believe that vortech has a parnter for authorize.net account setups -- i just can't remember the name right now... if i think of it later, i will get back to you.

I think either would be fine. You will always find something you want to do on a shopping situation that the main app may or may not want to do. And theme customization, for some reason...ends up being harder than it should. Security and how well it performs are also issues to consider. Has anybody been having performance issues w/ windows/candy press setups here?

candypress runs great here... once you install, you have to get MSSQL permissions tweaked by support for a storedProcedure, but that takes about ten minutes most times -- quick and easy.
i do (did) find myself having to tweak and/or upgrade my oscommerce installs on widows every couple of months -- usually the issue with opensource and security.
the forums over at candypress remind a bit of the boards over here... pretty helpful and light hearted. The oscommerce forums have a lot of droning, repetition and what appears to be pretty lengthy resolve sequences.

Yeah I think I'm leaning a little more toward CandyPress, I guess my issue now is what payment gateway should I use.

I don't see my earlier post, but for those of you thinking about upgrading, be careful, the latest version is not working well with older stores, many have inadvertently shut down their stores for a day trying to fix all the issues.

That's windows tho, right? asp? With all the NT problems you guys feel comfortable running ecommerce off of them? I guess it depends on the size anyway.

i have 4 or 5 stores running on nt here with candypress... 2 of them were originally oscommerce and one of those was originally on a nix box -- it was so sketchy, i pulled it and moved it over to the nt realm.
i have been with vortech for several years now and i think the nt issues are not in the overly annoying range -- i just kinda expect stuff like this with computers involved and i try to keep my clients' expectations in that realm as well. They all know if they want more stability, etc. they need dedicated, and they all know that means more cash

most of my stores are small potatoes -- under 20k per year in sales... so not tons of traffic.

Generic, keep us posted on the latest version of candypress if you can
