There is a spammer?

All I heard was that the connections were exceeded. Now I know why.

I am now sending a message that just has a couple of words and it only get about half way through.

Yhis is what i get from VT

Hello,

Mail5 is sending. The mail queue is at approx. 500. That is low for our mail servers. The server is sending. However, what you experienced was doe to exceeding the allot of allowed connections for this server.

Mail is not lost. If you received a bounce resend the email.
Best Regards,

Dan

There was a spam attack on this server. Leading to blacklisting of the IP. We have rerouted through a different IP. Also, the connections were exceeded or full. That is why you might have seen 'lost connection' or 'no smtp server avail' or something similar on those lines.

We have had to keep a very close eye on memory, whehter the drive was swapping, and taking action to keep the server sending mail as fast as possible due to the circumstances.

Please do not send test emails as this will fill the queue up. Sending mail is fine as the server is doing fine at the moment.

Doesn't it seem odd that this kind of stuff happens repeatedly to mail5? I don't remember the last time I had a problem with any of the other mail servers.

As far as what IP gets targeted for an attack we do not get to choose. Mail5 issues prior were related to a totally different issue. This server runs the same hardware as the others, has the exact same mail configuration, and the same image that the other servers were built from.

The server has had no heat issues, no swap problems, no CPU issues, or any other hardware problems. The only problem Mail5 had was the Spam this morning adn being blacklisted. Those issues are rectified and propagating. Mail queue is very acceptable and sending mail fine.

mail5 just seems to have bad luck. over the last year or so, mail5 is the only one I have problems with. My customer on mail5 isn't too happy, but Vortech is always quick to fix. I can't risk losing the customer so I gave them an alternate SMTP to use, and I'm switching them to a new domain and on mail2. Mail5 has bad karma.
