Question >>> MySQL 4.1 Support? <<<

When will you have one or more MySQL 4.1 servers up and running?

The MySQL 4.1x upgrade was supposed to have been included in the last H-Sphere patch.

As stated before. One app in particular is dropping support for mysql 4.1 after the next version and stopping support for 4.1 all together in the end of this year.

I'm not so much interested in mysql 4.1 as I am in getting 5.0 as this seems to be what will be needed in the future.

The question is do we need to upgrade to 4.1 or can we just jump to 5.0 and be current?

I've got a pretty immediate need, so I might just keep my dedicated box where I'm at. I forgot about these kind of shared hosting pains. That's a pretty darned out of date version!

We have a meeting tuesday I will find out what all is needed before this is done. I know this is a big upgrade and will break a LOT of sites. Thats why we did not do it with the H-Sphere upgrade. No need to have made more issues.

Unhappy require upgraded dbs for moodle

Basically, moodle will run with three different DBs. Vortech's versions of all three are too old. MySQL is the easiest. For now, until you guys do the upgrade Brad, I'm having to find a host somewhere else just to host the MySQL 4.1.16 or higher.

Break a lot of sites??? Instead of upgrading ALL your MySQL 4.0.x servers, why not just upgrade one or two. Or even add a new MySQL box so people can migrate over at their own leisure.

This is a great idea and would provide immediate temporary relief

This is a great idea and would provide immediate temporary relief while you figure an upgrade path. Certainly would save me $20/ a month with another provider I haven't even found yet.

I made a similar statement in another thread and was corrected by a support person who stated that the 4.1 upgrade would not break any sites.
I think everyone needs to get on the same page regarding the impact of 4.1

What support thinks the upgrade is going to break is irrelevant. Who developed the site and who is managing it are responsible to know the level of compatibility of their software. What Vortech should have done is just saying from x/2007 we are upgrading to MySQL 4.1 so make sure your website can work with the new version.
In my opinion version 4.0 is so old that shouldn't be on the servers anymore and 4.1 is getting there too.

My concern is all the talk of 4.1 with no or little chatter about 5.0

I'm still checking with the apps that are running 4.0 and so far all of them that I'm using also have an upgrade to 5.0

The question that I have is this. Is there a real reason for the 4.0 to 4.1 upgrade or can we just proceed to "go and collect $200" jumping right to 5.0?

Was anything decided at the meeting in regard to a MySQL upgrade?
