DNS for registrar, 2 or 4?

A while back we gained two new nameservers,
  • NS2.GMPSERVER.COM - 216.157.129.251
  • NS3.GMPSERVER.COM - 216.157.131.129
To my understanding, all I have to do is submit the new nameservers in E.Manager and that's it.

I went ahead and messed things up, and kinda added NS2 and NS3 to my DNS servers with GoDaddy. So you can guess what else happened, my sites are all down now (my fault) but I wanted to see if there's any reasoning as to why these new IP addresses are associated with my primary and secondary nameservers:

ns.gmpserver.com - 216.157.131.129
ns1.gmpserver.com - 216.157.143.156

Very confused, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Also: I submitted a trouble ticket and got a reply back VERY QUICKLY, thanks Craig for a quick reply and solution.

this is such a common mistake here...

For starters, you have to add the aliases for all 4 DNS in HSphere. Sounds like you already did that.

Thank you 'register' all those nameservers with your registrar for your service domain - sounds like that's GoDaddy - you submit the ns.yourdomain.com - ns3.yourdomain.com along with their respective IP's
Code:
65.57.231.100 (ns) 65.57.231.120 (ns1) 216.157.129.251 (ns2) 216.157.131.129 (ns3)
Once that's done, it may take a couple of days for those to propagate. Then you only add the 2 nameservers to the DNS properties of that domain's registrar, that each domain needs (this is shown in that domain's 'edit domain' page).

Once that has propagated, you're done.
