Please don't berate me if this question has already been posted and answered. I searched as I always do, and couldn't find the answer. I'm about to check the HSphere manual,, so my sincerest apologies in advance if I find the answer in there and have wasted your time. Some people seem to really get off on sending sarcastic responses when people ask questions they genuinely can't find an answer to.
Anyway: I have a customer who has deleted their login.html and index.html from the root directory of their web. They used to use this to login to their control panel. What I want to know is how to setup some form of alias or redirect so that a customer can simply type in http://cp.theirdomain.com and it will bring up the HSphere login page for their credentials. I want to send them to my service domain's HSphere login page (you know the one with my service domain's plans etc.) NOT the generic cp.hsphere.cc:8383 page for obvious reasons. Checking my server aliases I do have cp.myservicedomain.com mapped to cp.hsphere.cc, but this seems to bring up an error page when you try to navigate to it. If you change ports to 8080, it brings up an error page which allows the user to login... but why is it an control panel error page? Can someone please help me? Thanks in advance Jurgen Last edited by hyperspace : 06-07-2004 at 06:54 AM. |

It comes up as an incorrect control panel location becuase HSphere uses the URL to validate the login as well as the username and password. The URL the form is posted too must be either cp.hsphere.cc or a valid Reseller CP URL as defined in your Reseller settings.
Pretty sure even if you use a CNAME DNS entry or similar to alias your customers domain name to the control panel you'll get that error. 2 things ya could do. 1) Just take a copy of login.html from another one of your customer sites and copy it over to the folks that deleted it. 2) use the ASP script I wrote which allows you to create your own login page and set that up as the default document for a subdomain of your reseller account, say cpanel.yourdomain, and put the subdomain on a dedicated IP address. You could then setup a CNAME in your customers DNS that points too cpanel.yourdomain. Then when they enter cpanel.theirdomain it will route to your subdomain and load my ASP script. ... confused yet? I think I am lol. The post with the script in it can be found here http://forum.vortechhosting.com/showthread.php?t=4820 Problem with this is you'd have to set it up manually per customer as far as putting the custom CNAME into their DNS Settings. This is another gripe I have with HSphere is that you can't customise the DNS template that new domains are created with ![]() Others might have some much simpler ideas, I've been scouring over some code trying to find a bug for hours so my brains all mushy at the moment (yeah thats a technical term). Thanks Brangwyn. I'm a little perplexed why we even alias the cp server at all then. All I'm after is an easier way for my customers to remember where to go to login to their control panel. I might just provide a login form on my service domain web site, that way they can all go there to login. No mucking around with individual setups, or cname entries or subdomains etc. It's a pity though.

The new api should make this easier. Keep in mind brangwyn's script is for windows only being vb asp.
I think most cp's put it in the domain which is supposed to be easiest or they have a common point. Did you check you default cp url you chose for your reseller end? Last edited by mresell : 06-07-2004 at 04:26 PM. |

By "default cp url for the reseller end", I'm assuming you mean the reseller url which can be changed in the matrix resellers control panel.
I checked this and it is currently set to: http:// r#####.res.hsphere.cc : 8080 (Where ##### are actually numbers - my matrix reseller account number I'm guessing). This seems to be pointing at the right url from what I can work out. Thanks anyway. |

This is how I did it
I have setup access to the control for my customers via http://cp.mydomain.com:8080
I setup my control panel like this: Login to your control panel http://cp.hsphere.cc:8080/psoft/serv...oft.hsphere.CP Click change URL and change it to cp.yourdomain.com and port to 8080. That should do it. I couldn't get the panel to work when I changed my port but it might be different now. |

Thats the standard way of doing it jadedesigns It's about step 6 of the psoft reseller checklist/documentation. Many people miss this step or forget about it becuase when they're doing their initial setup their service domain won't have propagated and it won't work until thats happened.

hyperspace,
That is what I meant about the reseller url. That number is actually not your acct. number, but another id number.(DJJ) He is trying to have them use their domain name. Which will require a redirect .htaccess would work...or creating an alias etc... the problem there is I can't see an automatic way to do this. It just happens to be a personal pref thing. DJJ I am confused I thought I was answering hyperspace. ![]() |

JadeDesigns, thanks for the post, I'll give that a try immediately.
Brangwyn, I think you might be right... because the my service domain wouldn't have propagated when I was setting up my cypher account and the reseller stuff. I think I might have to go through that doco again, just to see what else I might have missed. MResell, ummm, yes... Hyperspace is DJJ. Depends on whether I'm at work (I'm a contract programmer), or whether I'm at home. I couldn't remember my original login (DJJ) once whilst at work, and had to create another one. I noticed after I posted the second post that I was logged in as DJJ, but it was too late by then. Thanks for your replies guys (and/or gals). |

I printed it out and went step by step thru it because it is really a hairy doc, especially when you are having to process every bit of it, not knowing whether your messing up or not. I was very familiar w/ hsphere, but not the reseller side and it was different. Another issue you have to decide on is a domain name you can live w/ and whether to go windows or unix for your svc domain. It is a real mess if you screw up on those two. I remember calling up and asking ?'s. One of 2 times I have called(the other was to get my email address straightened out.
